Can a Christian Have Assurance of Salvation?

According to the Bible, the answer is “Yes!” The Apostle John wrote in his first letter these encouraging words: “And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life” (1 John 5:11-13).
There is no wishful thinking in John’s statement. He boldly asserted that we can know with full confidence that eternal life is ours, that our salvation is sure.
For John’s words to become a reality in your life, you must understand what salvation is and what Christ accomplished for you through His death, burial and resurrection.
Paul gives us the most succinct statement concerning the nature of salvation in Romans 6:23: “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
We were under the wages of sin and were spiritually dead. Ephesians 2:1 puts it this way, “As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins.”
Salvation, then, is God’s act of making us alive with Christ. God’s grace reverses in us the death we inherited from Adam. He was alive spiritually, and then died because of sin. We were dead, and then through faith in Jesus Christ were made alive.
But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ– by grace you have been saved– Eph 2:4-5 (ESV).
And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our trespasses Col 2:13 (ESV).
You may be asking this question: “If the wages of sin is death, do you forfeit eternal life when you sin today?” Here is the good news. Jesus took your sins and paid the penalty that you justly deserved. As John wrote, “I write to you dear children, because your sins have been forgiven on account of His name.”
You are a forgiven person. Your sins were dealt with once and for all by the blood of Jesus Christ.
Not only are you forgiven, you are alive in Jesus. His Spirit now lives you. His Spirit testifies to your spirit that you are a child of God, an heir and a joint heir with Jesus Christ.
When Jesus saves, He does so completely. Because of the cross, you can know with confidence that “He will never leave you, nor forsake you.”

  1. And I close your comment with a BIG AMEN!!!! Ever since understanding in my heart that I am a 100% forgiven person, a breath of fresh air has gone through my soul! I can finally rest in that truth and just focus on HIS life working through me. Thanks for encouraging words Bob!

  2. Yes Bob thank you for these encouraging words as well
And to anyoe tha tis worried over future sins I have had a few on another trying to combat this with future sins and I peply back with as soon as they are past any sin is forgiven and this is not here to take advantage of it is here for appreciation
    2 Peter 1:9
But whoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins.
And how soon are any sin past before one can get in a prayer position and ask, what a wonderful God we have. Also John and allthe Saints write to us that we don’t sin but never to try this on you trying to keep from, only trust this
    1 John 2:1
My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One.
We all are totally covered and smothered I do not understand anyone taking this amazing salvation for granted as an ocassion for the flesh to do what one wants because of being forgiven
how then will any of us escape
    Hebrews 2:3
how shall we escape if we ignore so great a salvation? This salvation, which was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard him.
Thanks again Bob for the encouragement

    1. Great insight, Howard! Here’s something to be greatly encouraged by as well: We are so blessed to know that when Christ sacrificed Himself nearly 2,000 years ago, where were all of our sins? Since we weren’t even born back then, all of them were “future”, of which he paid for! This obliterates the measurement of time. Not only that, it was a spiritual life and death issue. In order for the Spirit to give us life, He had to do away with the sin issue – essentially purifying His new home to dwell in – us!

      1. And a big thank you to you Ben T
I wonder why it is so hard to reach all the way back then and in our minds die with Christ, dieing to the carnal minsdset and being raised back to life by the operation of God Romans 6:1-11 right here right now and doing this daily, thus our minds renewed in God the Father and thus being and staying in the Spirit of truth where no sin can occur, because one is too busy praising and worshipping the old Flesh stays dead, because you now know that all things work toward the good of God and being in God they all work toward our good somehow someway. No wonder Peter and James said things like count it all joy whatever is in front of you good or bad.
everyday send out the praise and worship band in the lead. The world is the enemy and does not know how to handle praise and worship, gets confused and bewildered and thrown off its evil that it concocts, while masquerading as good
Just read King Jehosaphat and his (GOD’s) army went first with the praise and worship band to war and the enemies turned on themselves. This is how God works for his children to thier protection. So then sing

  3. I would like you to know and
    to receive God’s free gift
    to you of eternal life.
It’s found in the Bible in
Romans 6:23b… the gift of God is
eternal life through our Lord Jesus Christ.
And Ephesians 2:8, For by grace are we
saved by grace… for it is the gift of God.
John 1:12. For as many as receivd him
(those who received Jesus as their Savior
and Lord) to them gave he the power to
become the sons (or children) of God.
1 John 5:11, He that hath the Son, hath life
    (eternal life).
So ask God for his mercy and forgiveness
for all your sins to be removed forever from
His sight and memory; and then ask Chirst to
come dwell in your heart (in your spirit) by
His Spirit from God His Father in heaven.
It’s all a free gift from God.
Why? Because God loves you and wants
you to live with Him and His Son and
all the others who have accepted His
free gift of eternal life through His His
    Son Jesus Christ.
And even when your body dies, when
Jesus returns in all His glory of God, He
will give you a new body like His resurrected
    body. Read 1 Corinthinas 15:42-58;
    Philippians 3:20-21; 1 Thess. 4:16-17;
    1 John 3:1-3.
    Don’t wait! Do it today!
Because there may not be a
    tomorrow for you.

    1. Awesome post Frank which by the curtain being torn brought in a new Covenant, a new Priesthood, and a new Law the Laws of Love that are the greatest of all the Law
