No longer will they teach their neighbor, or say to one another, 'Know the Lord,' because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest (Hebrews 8:11).
The third promise of the New Covenant is this:
No longer will they teach their neighbor or say to one another, "know the Lord," because they will all know me from the least of them to the greatest.
This promise is the essence of eternal life.
In John 17:3, Jesus said, "Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent".
This is one of the most powerful verses in the Bible. In fact, it seems to me that every other verse in the Bible drops us right in the middle of John 17:3.
Think about this. Because you have been born of God, you now know the God of the universe. You know what he is truly like because you have experienced his love, grace and forgiveness. You know his faithfulness and mercy and you know his mind and his ways.
This is all true of you because God has made himself known to you in Christ Jesus. He delivered on this New Covenant promise.
Knowing Christ makes you different in this world. And this knowledge of Christ shapes and transforms everything about you.
This change is what makes you uniquely qualified to make him known to others.
You know God. You know what he is like. You know that he is love. This is what God wanted for you all along and he brought it to pass through the New Covenant. You have a personal relationship with God. As Peter encouraged, grow in your knowledge of Christ. As you do, you can reflect what God is like to the world around you.
That is a powerful story to share.
In Him,
Bob Christopher
