Forgiveness was mine.

"This is the covenant I will make with them after that time, says the Lord. I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them on their minds." The he adds: "Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more." And where these have been forgiven, there is no longer any sacrifice for sin (Hebrews 10:16-18).

In the Old Covenant, the priests offered sacrifices daily for the sins of the people. This culminated on the day of atonement when the priest sacrificed first for himself and then for the sins of the people. This was all well and good, except for this critical reality. The blood of bulls and goats could never take away the sins of the people. For the Israelites, these sacrifices were daily and annual reminders of their sins.

But that was the Old Covenant. You and I live in the New Covenant, the covenant Jesus ushered in through his death. In this New Covenant, God remembers your sins no more. There are no more daily or annual sacrifices. There are no more reminders of sin. Jesus took it away once and for all. My life changed the moment I understood this truth.

For the longest time, guilt was always with me, haunting me, and toying with my mind. I knew my sins deserved to be punished. I didn't know when but I lived in expectation that somehow, some way, God was going to punish me. This constant reminder of my guilt kept pushing me to do more, to plead, beg and promise, to try harder, anything I could think of to remove my sin once and for all. Forgiveness was not a reality to me.

Until Hebrews 10. There, I found out exactly what Jesus' sacrifice did for me. His work on the cross cleansed me, took away my sins, made me holy and perfect in God's sight, and fulfilled the old covenant on my behalf.

And this just blows my mind: Jesus' death erased my sins from God's memory. Oh, the relief I felt knowing my sins had been forgiven once and for all. I was unshackled from guilt and shame. Forgiveness was mine.

Are you struggling with sin? Do you live under a cloud of guilt and shame? Let the truth of Jesus' sacrifice flood your heart with peace. His work on the cross took away your sins and you are holy and perfect in God's sight. You live in the New Covenant where God remembers your sins no more, where you are free to live a life of freedom and joy.

In Him,

The message matters.

Wed, Mar 19th

For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel - not with words of human wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power. For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God (1 Corinthians 1:17, 18).

The key to spiritual growth.

Fri, Mar 21st

For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith, goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But if anyone does not have them, he is nearsighted and blind, and has forgotten that he has been cleansed from his past sins (2 Peter 1:5-9).
