Recently an interesting video circulated on social media. The producers created a job listing for a director of operations and posted it online. Then they interviewed a number of applicants by video. For the applicants, the job description was beyond belief. First, it required the person to work 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The person must be mobile and able to stand for long periods of time. No breaks. No vacation or sick leave. One applicant asked if it was legal to demand so much in a job. Another described it as inhumane. Several applicants asked about the pay. The answer came back, "There is no pay."
 
To this, every single applicant asked, "Who would do such a job?"
 
The interview assured them that literally billions of people currently occupy this position. Then came the punch line. "They’re called moms."
 
The message hit home. These applicants gained an even deeper love and respect for their moms. It’s true, you know - a mom's work is never done.
 
The same was true of the Old Testament priests. Their work was never done. The writer of Hebrews tells us what it was like for the priests. "Day after day every priest stands and performs his religious duties: again and again he offers the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins" (Hebrews 10:11). How would you like to be born into that bloodline? You stand to do a job day after day, again and again, and you never accomplish your purpose. You do that until you turn 50, and then the next generation steps in to carry on the work. Such was the fate of the priests.
 
But not Jesus. Unlike the priests, Jesus sat down once his work was finished. Concerning the sin issue, there is no need for Jesus to get up from his seated position.  Jesus sat down because his blood satisfied the justice of God. He sat down because propitiation was accomplished. He successfully turned aside the wrath of God.
