Live

Grace in its purest form.

What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? (Romans 6:1, 2).

Carlos called the Basic Gospel broadcast with this question: Is it possible to misinterpret the grace of God?

The answer is yes. In the short letter of Jude near the end of the Bible we read this: "For certain men whose condemnation was written about long ago have secretly slipped in among you. They are godless men, who change the grace of our God into a license for immorality and deny Jesus Christ, our only Sovereign and Lord" (Jude 1:4).

Godless people misinterpret grace. They pervert it for their own purposes to justify their immoral behavior. These lost souls are the ones who turn the grace of God into a "license to sin". And in so doing, they deny Jesus Christ, the One who is full of grace and truth.

We shouldn't be surprised by this. As Jesus said, "people loved the darkness rather than the light because their deeds are evil" (John 3:19). It follows that these would take the amazing grace of God and pervert it for their evil purposes.

This begs the question. Should we alter the way we communicate the grace of God to prevent these "godless men" from turning the grace of God into a license to sin? The answer is a resounding no!

Testifying to the gospel of God's grace is the task of the church. We should deliver it without shame and with total confidence that it will do its work. As we spread the message, we will see that it becomes the aroma of life to those who believe—a life freed from the power and control of sin and death. And a life that is "self-controlled, upright, godly and eager to do good works" (read Titus 2:11-14).

Be bold in communicating the grace of God to others. Continue to proclaim the message of God's gift of grace in Jesus Christ. It was the message that made you fully alive in Christ. It was the message that saved you and is bearing fruit in your life. Deliver it with confidence knowing that God's grace can and will save others just as he saved you.

In Him,
