Toward the end of his life Jesus gathered his disciples to prepare them for what was ahead. In John 13 Jesus chooses to wash the feet of the disciples. It was to show the full extent of his love. The next day he showed the ultimate act of love through his death on the cross. In the washing of the disciple's feet, he shared a new commandment. "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another." John 13:34-35

When we don't know who we are, we play religious games to try to figure out who we are. But God wants us to know we are children of God. John wrote: "He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him. But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God."

• How do I answer someone who questions the validity of the Gospels?
• I have learned that it is not by works (what we do or believe), it is by Grace. So how can I interpret that?

How do we overcome the desires of the flesh? "But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh." Galatians 5:16 We've learned that real life - meaningful life is found in Christ, learning to enjoy his life forever. We can declare we are dead to the flesh and alive to Christ.

There are many ways we come up with to be closer to God. But we don't have what it takes to get us there. "What then shall we say? That the law is sin? By no means! " Romans 7:7-11 The Gospel draws us near to God and enables us to be close to Him. Close to God both in location and relationship.

We can't change the nature of the world. It is full of confusion and clutter. But we have something better. The hope of Jesus Christ. Unfortunately we see the church blending in to fit the world around them. Take a stand in this world and proclaim along with Peter: "And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved."

The grace of God is sufficient to meet every need of the human heart. It's the love of God that brings us assurance to live everyday. John, in his Gospel, only described himself as the one whom Jesus loved. "In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins." 1 John 4:9-10

The Judeo-Christian legacy in the Bible is the foundation for contemporary science. The beginning of scripture is a huge statement. If there is an intelligent God behind nature and if he has made us in his image then it is to be expected that we can understand nature. The same heavens and earth proclaimed as God's creation in Genesis are the very same heavens and earth that are studied by physicists and astrophysicists.
