The only way we've can be drawn near to God is through the shed blood of Jesus Christ. Why do we have feelings that we are distant from God when He has taken up residence in us? "Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul." 1 Peter 2:11

• If salvation is by grace alone, why isn't everyone saved?
• Judas Iscariot was one of the disciples chosen by Jesus, but he betrayed him and committed suicide, should we believe that Judas made it to heaven?

Today is a special day. It's been 75 years since Victory in Europe (VE) Day. We've also been celebrating medical professionals this week. Especially nurses and we appreciate how they serve the medical needs of the community. Yesterday was The National Day of Prayer and many participated in that. We need to pray for our nation and its leaders. Let's pray for opportunities to deliver this good news.

How do we break free from the patterns of this world? How do we stand firm in truth? It's Easter week and this Sunday we will celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. So this week we will look at Jesus' death, burial, and resurrection. Let's start in the garden of Gethsemane. We read his words in Matthew 26:39 "And going a little farther he fell on his face and prayed, saying, 'My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will.'"

This New Covenant is for you and me. It's where we live today. Too often we try to mix the old and new and make a mess of it and us. Hebrews 8:7 reads, "For if that first covenant had been faultless, there would have been no occasion to look for a second." There was nothing wrong with the law, but "[God] finds fault with [the people] when he says Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will establish a new covenant..." Hebrews 8:8,9

• How do I get across to someone the need for salvation and forgiveness for sins?
• Please explain the difference between Hell and the Lake of Fire.
• Where do you stand on alcohol, and if he and the others believe alcohol consumption is a sin, what authority does he have to condemn someone?

Who was the Old Covenant given to? So often we think it's for everyone. But when you read it you find that it was specifically for Israel. God gave it to them when he rescued them from Eqypt. But this covenant with Israel did not supersede the covenant with Abraham. The promise for all nations to be blessed through Abraham was still in effect. Moses was a servant not a son.

• What are your thoughts on levels of Hell based on the judgment seat?
• What is faith? I pray and have faith that God will heal people. But I have prayed for 20 years for a cure to my MS and I still have it. Now I question my faith.
• What does John 3:8 mean? "The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit."

We live in a New Covenant that Jesus Christ ushered in for us 2,000 years ago. But there is an Old Covenant called the Mosaic Covenant. And that covenant was bilateral which means that each party had conditions to meet. We read in Exodus 24:3 after Moses read all the words of the covenant the people responded, "All the words that the Lord has spoken we will do.". But soon after they violated the covenant. In the New Covenant it unilateral. God declared it and we benefit. We are the recipients of His work for us.

• Are there levels in Hell? I can't find anything in Scripture about it.

• I've been a Christian for over 30 years... have I grieved the Holy Spirit?

The world is in turmoil. From the devastating fires in California to events like the shooting in Thousand Oaks, people are reeling from the tragedy. Events like this cause us to evaluate what is important and, more importantly, what is lasting. The answer is Jesus Christ. He holds all things together. In the midst of what is happening, we can turn to Him and rely on Him to be with us.

• What would you say when someone says why would God allow the fires to happen?

As believers, let's never ever underestimate the power of the Gospel when it comes to the matters of the soul. This issue needs our listening ears, our caring hearts and our generous love. "... do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God." Philippians 4:6

"The time when the Holy Spirit was sent to us. And while staying with them he ordered them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, he said, 'you heard from me; for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.'" Acts 1:4-5

The entire Gospel is presented in Romans 5:10: For if, while we were God's enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! In God's rich mercy, he demonstrated his love for us at the cross of Jesus Christ. We were enemies of God because of sin but Jesus' death removed the barrier of sin and his resurrection moved us from spiritual death to spiritual life.

Our relationship with Christ Jesus changes everything. Paul talks about the change throughout his letters and he uses a catchphrase - "Do you not know...". One of those occasions is found is the question Paul answers one of those questions in Romans 6 "What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it? Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?"
