What do I do when I sin? That's a question we all ask at one time or another. Are we supposed to tithe? Is it an obligation that is placed on every single believer? What about sanctification? Do we have to do good works to continually work for sanctification? All of these questions come back to what you know about God's character. If you write a good news story, you're unlikely to start the story with the death of the main character. But when we look at what Jesus accomplished with his death, burial, and resurrection, we see what it means for us and it becomes the best story ever written. Hebrews 10:12

God has a goal of perfection for us - we cannot achieve that on our own. We have to rely on the perfect will of God through the finished work of Jesus Christ. The gift of God's grace to us is the New Covenant. Because of the New Covenant we have the gift of a new heart, we are a member of God's family, we can know God, and we receive the miraculous forgiveness of sins.

As Christians, we've been forgiven, made righteous, holy, alive together with Christ, and God has sent his spirit to take up residence in us. That is what it means to live in the newness of life. S. M. Lockridge preached a powerful evangelical sermon years ago. The tagline is "It's Friday, but Sunday's coming". For Christians, Friday represents the death of Christ on the cross and his burial But, thanks be to God, Sunday is coming! Jesus Christ is raised from the dead. For those of us who have to come to Christ, it is always Sunday ... just was he was raised from the dead, we too have been raised to newness of life. We live in a "Friday" world, but, as Christians, our reality is in Sunday...new life in Christ Jesus.

Who is this Jesus? "waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ..." Titus 2:13 Grace is not some generic concept. It is the very person of Jesus Christ. And we have a grace we can count on. The God that powerfully saved us is now living in us working powerfully in us.

How do we enter God's rest? It's an important topic to embrace. Everything good and powerful in the Christian life begins from a place of rest. Even creation comes from a place of rest. Adam and Eve were created on the 6th day and on the seventh day entered into rest with God. "For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For whoever lacks these qualities is so nearsighted that he is blind, having forgotten that he was cleansed from his former sins." 1 Peter 1:8-9

"I know God has forgiven me but I'm having trouble forgiving myself." If you've had this thought, the answer is found in resting in the finished work of Jesus Christ. When we rest in Him we are agreeing that he has forgiven all of our sins and we are rejoicing in that truth.

When you came into this world you were in Adam, dead in your sins. But when you come to Christ you are made alive in him. His life becomes your life. You are a new creation. You have been born again in Christ. And there is now no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus.
