Power of 8: Jesus Christ, part 2

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

The eight essential truths every Christian should know. Now who is Jesus? Is Jesus the Messiah? Jesus is the Son of the living God. Fully God and fully human. We find that in John 1:41 Andrew said we have found the Messiah. The law is not God's final word to man. In the old times God spoke to man through His prophets but today He is speaking to us through His Son, He is the final word. As the Messiah, Jesus is prophet, priest and king. As savior, how did Jesus save us? It all centers around the Lord Jesus Christ.

Power of 8: Word of God, part 1

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

The Word of God. How do we know it is true and reliable? It is vitally important for us to answer this question. It is God's very word to man, spoken by prophets and Jesus Christ Himself. These 66 books were penned by 40 authors over a 1500 year period. All 40 authors wrote a singular story - the story of Jesus Christ. The Word of God is not a self-improvement or self-help book. It is the story of God revealed to us through Jesus Christ.

Power of 8: Word of God, part 2

Richard Peifer, Bob Davis

Last week we looked at the Bible and how it was written, how it was put together, and why we can trust it. But how do we study the Bible? "Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?" 1 Corinthians 1:20 The Bible is revealed by the Spirit of God and it's only through the mind of Christ that we can understand it. "For who has understood the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?" But we have the mind of Christ. 1 Corinthians 2:16

Power of 8: New Covenant, part 1

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

In this session we take a deep look at the New Covenant. The New Covenant is good news for believers with 4 simple promises. These are powerful and reach into every area of our life. The New Covenant was ushered in by the death of Jesus Christ. Just as our own wills (covenants) do not go into effect until we die, so it is with the New Covenant. Jesus' death is the dividing line between the Old and New. A firm understanding of this truth is the key to experiencing the Christian life as God intended.

Power of 8: New Covenant, part 2

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Under the Old Covenant, everything was a constant reminder of sin. In this New Covenant, God makes four promises. Those promises are "I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts, I will be their God and they will be my people, they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more (Hebrews 8:10-12). God, in his glory and grace, guaranteed these four promises by the finished work of Christ and delivered them to you by His resurrected life.

Power of 8: Finality of the Cross, part 1

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

The cross is the central symbol of the Christian faith. What did Jesus do for us on the cross? What is the importance of the cross? Paul calls the gospel "of first importance". (1 Corinthians 15:2) He is passing this information on to you and me. There is no salvation, life, or hope available to us without the cross. And this good news story actually starts with death - the death of Jesus Christ. There is no forgiveness without the cross of Christ. Through the forgiveness he provided at the cross, we are released from sin and death and are reconciled to God.

Power of 8: Finality of the Cross, part 2

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

The cross of Jesus Christ is where the New Covenant began. Jesus dealt with sin once and for all at the cross. We need to truly understand that the wages of sin is death. God's purpose for us is to move us from the penalty of sin and make us alive in Christ. Unbelief in Jesus is death. Jesus took away the sin of the world so that he can give us life. That's good news!

Power of 8: The Reality of the Resurrection, Part 1

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

The story of Jesus is the death, burial, resurrection and ascension. The resurrection of Christ Jesus is where we experience new life. In the book of Romans 1:3-4 Paul makes a point to mark the resurrection as God's stamp of approval that what Jesus claimed about himself was true. But the resurrection is so much more than just an apologetic; it is the power of the Gospel.

Power of 8: The Reality of the Resurrection, Part 2

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

The resurrection impacts our daily lives. The first impact is that the resurrection means we have eternal life. The resurrection is God's pronouncement that Jesus is the Son of God. Because of this, we can be assured that He has power over death and that he can raise us to new life... eternal life. Once we have eternal life, then we will begin to experience freedom and change in our daily life. The next impact is assurance. Life is in Jesus Christ. If you have Jesus, you have eternal life. That is assurance. It's not just a hope, but a steadfast assurance.

Power of 8: Identity

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

Today we look at the "who" - who you were before coming to Christ and who you became when you came to Christ. Once you come to Christ, you receive a new identity. You become a child of God. We were sinners, dead in our sins. We had unbelieving hearts. Now, we are children of God, made righteous, completely forgiven in Jesus Christ. With this new identity, you find peace and purpose in life.

Power of 8: Identity, part 2

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

Our identity in Christ answers the question of "Who?" We were once sinners, apart from Christ. But when we come to Christ, our identity changed. We were sinners, we were washed by the blood of Jesus, we were sanctified, and we were given a new identity - child of the Living God. Who we are in Christ is so important to understand. It is the key to living a life of assurance and power.

Power of 8: Law and Grace, part 1

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

Our new identity in Jesus Christ is so important for us to grasp. We have a post resurrection journey ahead of us fueled by Christ's life. And when we enter into this new life, we are no longer under the law. We've tried to live by rules and regulations, but those only showed us our shortcomings. So how then do we live?

Power of 8: Law and Grace, part 2

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

Far from being a dull theological tenant, the way of grace is the most exciting way to live. As children of God, we're no longer under the law. We live under the grace of God. No one is righteous under the law. Righteousness is a free gift of the grace of God. How then should we live? Led by the Spirit. The good news is God has sent his Spirit to take up residence in us. The Spirit renews our minds and empowers us to live as children of God. "For through the law I died to the law, so that I might live to God." Galatians 2:19

Power of 8: Faith, Hope and Love

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

If you're looking for victory in life, it comes through being empowered by the very Spirit of God. This Spirit led life gives us full knowledge of God the Father and Jesus Christ the Son. The life we live now is lived by faith, anchored by hope and expressed by love. When we come to Christ we are identified with Him in His death, burial and resurrection and raised to walk in the newness of life. Walking by faith is trust, rely and depend on Jesus in all things.

Power of 8: Hope

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

Faith, hope and love are the distinguishing marks of Christianity. We walk by faith, are anchored by hope, and our faith is manifested in love. Hope is defined as the desire of some good with the expectation of obtaining it. Hope is not wishful thinking; it is confident assurance. Hope is eternally tied to Jesus Christ and the New Covenant he ushered in.

Power of 8: Love

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

The very nature of God is love. It was the love of God that we responded to and it is the heart and soul of Christianity. When the world sees the love of God in us, it takes notice and draws people to Him. God not only has this love toward us, he acted on it by sending Jesus. God demonstrated his love for you at the cross of Jesus Christ. That's good news!
