One of the most assuring passages in the Bible is found in John 10:22. One of the most often asked questions is surrounding one's assurance of their salvation. "Jesus answered them, "I told you, and you do not believe; the works that I do in My Father's name, these testify of Me. But you do not believe because you are not of My sheep. One of the areas that religion has it all wrong is righteousness. Righteousness is God's to give and not ours to earn. Religion claims that we can earn it. But that's not how righteousness works. Aren't you glad? "But now apart from the Law the righteousness of God has been revealed, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, but it is the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all those who believe; ..." Romans 3:21-26

God has taken the initiate to reach out to us through his love and grace. We have a relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. But we see religious practices - man trying to reach up to God - all over the world. However what we learn in Scripture is that God has taken the initiative towards us and provides His righteousness to us. No longer in the flesh, we now live in the spirit.

There has been a life-change because of the resurrection. And the message of the resurrection is our message to the world. When Jesus started to tell the disciples this message, they didn't understand. Before the foundation of the world God had this plan that included Jesus. It was all a part of God's plan. The Bible is filled with promises of hope. Hebrews 10:23 reads: " Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful." The hope we have in Jesus Christ is the same hope the early church had as they faced trials and tribulation of all sorts. We can hold tight to the hope of God because of God's faithfulness.

Grace is the essence of the Christian life from start to finish. Today's misconception about the grace of God: Grace is merely a covering for sins. There's several things wrong about this misconception. First grace is not a covering for sins. Grace takes our sin away. "Look. The lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world." Secondly it limits grace to forgiveness. But our greatest need is life.

What are the lies or misconceptions people hold in their hearts and minds about the grace of God? Misconception number 1. Grace is necessary only for salvation. That's a misconception. There's nothing bigger or better than the grace of God. It's part of all we do from start to finish.

In any situation like this we always ask: "how do we fix this?" And we look to legislation, forgetting that this hatred flows from the heart. It comes from a belief system that leads to actions. All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. There is no one righteous. Do you believe that each person has worth ... that we are all equal at the foot of the cross and are you willing to live that out?"

2 Thessalonians 5:16 "Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you." This circumstance that we're going through is not judgment from God. We have the grace of God to guide us through these times as we walk in dependence upon Jesus Christ. He has been faithful and will continue to be faithful.

For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile. For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed—a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: "The righteous will live by faith." Romans 1:16,17 As Paul went out into the world to proclaim Jesus Christ, he went out unashamed. This is important to us today. Too often we try to fit the message to what's happening in the world. And in doing that we rob the Gospel of its power.

There is power in Gospel. So many try to water down the Gospel and in so doing, they take the power out of it. The power is contained in the death, the burial, and the resurrection. Christ was raised so that you and I could walk in the newness of life through his resurrection. "Consequently, when Christ came into the world, he said, 'Sacrifices and offerings you have not desired, but a body have you prepared for me...' Hebrews 10:5-7 Why did Jesus come into this world? To do the will of God the Father.

• How do my husband and I make a decision when we are being led by God in different directions?
• What does it mean to be obedient to God? If you're not obedient does he not love you?
