This is the last broadcast as Basic Gospel. We are grateful for the love and support of our listeners and we thank God for each and every one of you. Today’s message is the Great I Am. Our Christian life begins and ends with Jesus. He holds everything together. Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am.” John 8:58. Jesus is always going to be the Great I AM in your life. Rejoice in the truth that he will never leave you or forsake you. Open the door of your heart and say “yes” to Jesus Christ.

He is alive! This is the greatest message ever told. This gospel message is a message of life. We see that through the resurrection of Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 15:17 says “And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins.” But, thanks be to God, Jesus was raised and in him we have eternal life.

Welcome to the Christmas Eve broadcast. Today we look at the Christmas story through the eyes of Joseph. It is recorded in Matthew 1:18-25. Faced with the fact that Mary was pregnant, Joseph decided to break the engagement privately. An angel appeared to him in a dream saying "Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife." Joseph's obedience fulfilled what had been prophesied in Isaiah.

We see some really amazing and supernatural things about the Christmas story. It was orchestrated by God to provide his Son as a gift and sacrifice to us. We see the full scope of Jesus' work upon the earth — his death, burial and resurrection. Paul gives us a description of Jesus in Colossians 1:19-20 "For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross."

How do we please God? What are His expectations? So often we question our relationship with God by questioning who we are in Christ. However the truth is that our identity in Christ is secured by Jesus himself and we are pleasing to God through our faith in Christ.

We've been talking about all the things religion can't do for us. We can't find rest in religion. We only find it in Christ. We can't find forgiveness in religion. We only find forgiveness in the finished work of Jesus Christ. Religion can't cleanse our consciousness. Only the sacrifice offered by Jesus can do that. "The blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkled on those who are ceremonially unclean sanctify them so that they are outwardly clean. How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death,so that we may serve the living God!" Christianity is the only set of doctrines and beliefs that open a relationship with God. Religion is man made attempts. So what do we do with manmade rituals? How do we live today? Galatians 5:16 We've learned that real life - meaningful life is found in Christ, learning to enjoy his life forever. We can declare we are dead to the flesh and alive to Christ.

Every human being wants to know how to be close to God. Eternal life is defined in John 17:4 - it is knowing Him relationally, from the heart. We are in Christ and Christ is in us. That's the closeness of location. But there's another kind of closeness - that of friendship through the heart. That's the closeness of relationship.

Discussion about Afghanistan and the hurricane in Haiti. There's so much going on in the world. We have to turn to Jesus Christ and the Gospel. Ephesians 2 speaks to this: "For he himself is our peace, who has made the two groups one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility". In Christ, we can be at peace with another. This has huge implications to us individually, but also to the world around us.

In 1 Corinthians 2 we see Paul defending his ministry. "For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified." The message is Jesus Christ and Paul wanted that to be understood. "And I was with you in weakness and in fear and much trembling, and my speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, so that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God."

What is the truth about God? God is love. God so loved the world... We need to get our ideas about God aligned with what He says about himself. Our view of God is distorted by our life of sin and death. But when we are born again we can know God as who He truly is. And that changes how we relate to one another.

We search for joy, contentment, and peace in all kinds of things in this world. But true joy, contentment, and peace is only found in Christ. And nothing can separate you from the love of Christ Jesus. Paul writes: "I rejoiced in the Lord greatly that now at length you have revived your concern for me. You were indeed concerned for me, but you had no opportunity. Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. ... I can do all things through him who strengthens me." Philippians 4:10-13

The resurrection impacts our daily lives. The first impact is that the resurrection means we have eternal life. The resurrection is God's pronouncement that Jesus is the Son of God. Because of this, we can be assured that He has power over death and that he can raise us to new life... eternal life. Once we have eternal life, then we will begin to experience freedom and change in our daily life. The next impact is assurance. Life is in Jesus Christ. If you have Jesus, you have eternal life. That is assurance. It's not just a hope, but a steadfast assurance.
