Happy birthday Bob Christopher! The older I get the more precious the grace of God becomes to me. I realize I'm nothing apart from Christ. And that's why this passage is so meaningful to me: 1 Corinthians 15:10-11 "But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me. Whether then it was I or they, so we preach and so you believed."

1 John is an exciting letter - rich in application. We hear a lot about engaging our culture today. There's this idea of speaking into the worlds culture. The world is anti-Jesus and anti-God. 1 John gives us insight into how to bring light into this otherwise dark world. 1 John 1:1-4 is our focus today. John gives us an eyewitness account concerning the Word of Life - Jesus Christ himself. He walked with and learned from Jesus and he is testifying to what he knows firsthand. This preface sets the stage for the message he wants us to embrace - the proclamation of Jesus Christ.

Our prayers and thoughts go out to those in the path and destruction of hurricane Michael. When something like that happens we have the physical damage that needs restoration, but there's lots of turmoil within the human heart. In the midst of pain and suffering in our life, there is Jesus who holds us together. "He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. ... " Colossians 1:15-20 In Jesus all things hold together.

October 10 is World Mental Health day. Statistics show that 40 million Americans have mental health issues. And many of those are suffering from depression. As believers, let's never ever underestimate the power of the Gospel when it comes to the matters of the soul. This issue needs our listening ears, our caring hearts and our generous love. "... do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God." Philippians 4:6

Proverbs 18:13 "Spouting off before listening to the facts is both shameful and foolish." This certainly speaks to what's happening in the world today. We don't listen to the facts and already have our minds made up. It speaks to a shallowness in the world today. This stems from a culture that exalt feelings and personal preferences over truth.

Can you imagine what it would be like to follow Jesus and see the things that he did? In John 2:24 we read: "But Jesus on his part did not entrust himself to them, because he knew all people and needed no one to bear witness about man, for he himself knew what was in man." People were drawn to Jesus for his miracles but hadn't accepted him for who he was. Jesus knows exactly what is going on inside you and has the answer.

Our new series explores the book of 1 John. 1 John is an exciting letter, giving us insight into the Christian life. It's a timely study in the world today. The author doesn't identify himself, but it is widely attributed to John. We can trust that he wrote it because of the themes are covered, phraseology, and the claim that the author has firsthand knowledge of Jesus. It appears that John wrote this letter toward the end of his life. 1 John is an eyewitness account of Jesus Christ himself and is rich in application for us, just as it was for the church in Ephesus.

2 Timothy 1:7 "... for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control." Based on this truth go out and live as if you have power, love, and self-control. Because you do. Live out the high calling of Jesus Christ upon your life.

Last week as I was with Blue Skies Ministries, I shared from Hebrews 10:17-18 " then he adds, 'I will remember their sins and their lawless deeds no more.' Where there is forgiveness of these, there is no longer any offering for sin." If there was one thing I could bring to people, it would be God remembers your sins no more because of the blood of Jesus Christ.
