Resurrection Reality

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Yesterday we talked about the heart of man and wanted to follow up with a passage where Jesus really identifies our problem. Matthew 15:10-11 And he called the people to him and said to them, "Hear and understand: it is not what goes into the mouth that defiles a person, but what comes out of the mouth; this defiles a person." What does God want to do with out hearts? He wants to anchor our hearts in the hope of the resurrection.

A Nation Mourns...

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

This weekend's tragedy in Pittsburgh is our focus today. The Tree of Life synagogue was the target of a horrific display of hatred. Our hearts are broken by the loss of life and for the evil that was represented by the gunman. When a place of worship is no longer a safe place, it is a dangerous world to live in. There are no laws that can legislate virtue and civility; it takes the love of God through Jesus Christ to reach into the heart of man. Our prayers and sympathy to those who are reeling with this loss.

1 John - Part 3 - Jesus is Our Advocate

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

What do we do when we sin? Even as children of God, we stumble and fall time and time again. John addresses this issue in the 2nd chapter of 1 John. He wants to give encouragement to children of God. This new life in Christ Jesus is a new way to live - by faith. The core of our Christian life is to simply trust. Everything else then falls into place. Jesus is our advocate. He offered his blood once for all. He is the victor over the one who accuses us. God loves us. We are always in his favor. Our sin doesn't cause him to turn his back on us. Jesus is our comforter and encourager, continually pointing us to his finished work on our behalf.

The Place of Contentment

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Restless is a word that describes the world today. People are restless. They are not content. And you can't find contentment in the world. In Philippians Paul learned to find contentment in Jesus Christ. Philippians 4:11-13 If you are in Christ you are in that place of contentment and nothing can separate you from his love. That's the strength that will get you through any situation.

God's Promise Rests on Grace

Richard Peifer, Bob Davis, Andrew Farley

Romans 4:13-16, 23-5 "For the promise to Abraham and his offspring that he would be heir of the world did not come through the law but through the righteousness of faith. For if it is the adherents of the law who are to be the heirs, faith is null and the promise is void. For the law brings wrath, but where there is no law there is no transgression." It's not our performance that matters. It's the performance of Jesus Christ. God raised him for us who believe and makes our lives worthwhile.

One Act of Righteousness

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Can we out sin the grace of God? Is there a line we can cross that's beyond his grace? "For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life." Romans 5:10, 18-21 "... where sin increased, grace abounded all the more ..."

Perfect Courtesy to All

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

We all go through ups and downs in life and we try to figure out how to get through those hard times. The Bible tells us to think upon good things. And I can't think of a better thing to think upon than what's mentioned in Titus 3:1-8 "Remind them to be submissive to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good work, to speak evil of no one, to avoid quarreling, to be gentle, and to show perfect courtesy toward all people. ... But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us... "

1 John - Part 2 - A Credible Witness

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

The book of 1 John is an eyewitness account of the ministry of Jesus. It is written to give assurance to believers that they have put their faith in the right person. John's purpose is to testify to Jesus Christ and to share the fellowship we all have in that relationship. Within the body of believers, our joy flourishes ... made complete. Verses 5-10 are a very controversial passage but they don't have to be. The message is clear. If we walk in the light as He is in the light then we have fellowship with each other and the blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sin.

By Grace Through Faith

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

The story has always been about Jesus. "O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? It was before your eyes that Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified. Let me ask you only this: Did you receive the Spirit by works of the law or by hearing with faith? Are you so foolish? ..."Galatians 3:1-3 It's by grace through faith in Jesus Christ from start to finish.

Jesus is God

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer, Andrew Farley

"You are the Christ. The son of the living God." God the Father revealed this to Peter. Jesus is fully God and fully man. Jesus said, "I and the Father are one." Jesus "It is not for a good work that we are going to stone you but for blasphemy, because you, being a man, make yourself God." If you don't believe Jesus is God, you have no hope.
