His Good, Pleasing, and Perfect Will

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer, Andrew Farley

We're facing all kinds of trials and tribulations in our life. What do we do in the face of that? Christ Jesus is alive living in us, so we have someone we can trust in this world. In Romans 12:1-3 Paul wrote: "Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. ..." As we submit to Christ we will see a transformation that allows us to live in the midst of trials.

  • William comments on Romans 12 and bearing fruit for God.
  • Clay shares thoughts on what it means to live according to the world's system vs. living in Christ.

He is Greater

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

I know many of our listeners are continuing to pray for those in Houston. If you can find a way to help please do.

  • 1 John 4:1-6 "Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world. ... "
  • Irving asks about the "Tree of Life".
  • Christina asks "are there things you must show ... to prove your belief and faith are real. What are your thoughts?"
  • Is faith a gift from God to respond to the message of the Gospel? Ephesians 2:8-9

The Bible is Clear

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

The news about the disaster in Houston and all along the Gulf Coast is heartbreaking. We all want to help in some way... if you are feeling led to help in some way, we encourage you to do it. Step out and find a way to be of help. This will be an ongoing need for quite some time. Many will assume that somehow this natural disaster is a punishment of some kind from God. That is faulty theology. Bob calls it a "contract theology". Some people believe what they do (or don't do) constitutes a contract to buy their way into Heaven. The Bible is very clear - it is the grace of God that saves us through Jesus Christ.

  • Romans 8:19 "For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed."
  • Kadir asks about the security of a believer. Is "once saved, always save" true?

Our hearts go out to those in south Texas effected by hurricane Harvey.

  • Christ is alive and has come to live in us and that gives us hope. Philippians 2:12-15 "therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, 13 for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose. ... Hard Passages - Part 14

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Matthew 5:21-30 is a troubling passage that seems to hold commands about behavior. Is it true that anyone who says, "You fool!' Will be in danger of the fire of hell? What does it mean to be cleansed of wood and clay to be an instrument for special purposes? Galatians 5:19-21 describes acts of the flesh. What does that mean in light of our freedom of Christ? 2 Timothy 2:20-21 is a confusing scripture. How does this apply to us?

Set Your Minds on Things Above

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

How do we deal with the issues in the world like we face today? The news is filled with all kinds of things that can make us live in anxiety and fear. But God has not called us to live in anxiety and fear. He's called us to live in dependence upon him. "For the love of Christ controls us..." We need the love of God to control us, otherwise we will find ourselves living a worldly life.

  • Can you give me a clear understanding of Matthew 18:15-19 "If your brother or sister sins, go and point out their fault, just between the two of you ... "
  • Your presentation of the Gospel set us free to spread the Love of the Lord many years ago. Thank you for your faithfulness in service all these years.
  • Tabitha asks how she can help her husband understand the things of God.

The Message of Reconciliation

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

How does godly perspective lead to godly purpose?' "So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come" Christ's love compels us to view people from God's vantage point. He is our living hope and changes our perspective. "God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people's sins against them." 2 Corinthians 5:16, 17, 19

  • Derron asks about the context of 1 John 3:9 "No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God's seed remains in them; they cannot go on sinning, because they have been born of God."
  • Jane says, I am fighting to get this truth of forgiveness from my head to my heart.

Stand Firm in His Grace

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

We've been given a sign. And his name is Jesus Christ. In the midst of all the commotion over the eclipse, we are reminded of this simple truth, "that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people's sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation." We've been made new creatures in Christ and we need to stand firm in his grace.

  • Antoine asks if the darkness that came with Jesus' crucifixion was an eclipse like yesterday.
  • Tim asks about the "age of accountability".
  • Lois asks what to do about a boss that is stealing from the company.
  • Brad asks how he can reconcile his previous marriage with his new marriage.

A Kingdom That Cannot Be Shaken

Richard Peifer, Bob Davis

Hebrews 12 "Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us... But you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem." Jesus is victorious in every way. If we fix out eyes upon Jesus Christ we will not be conforming to this world. The world is not our friends. And nothing will change unless Jesus changes hearts one-by-one.

  • In revelation, talking about the seven churches, he is saying to each church, ''BUT I HAVE THIS AGAINST YOU''. Is this to us? Specifically I want to know about Revelation 2:4.
  • Mary Jo asks why things tend to get worst before they get better.

Hard Passages - Part 13

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

The hard passages we look at today will confirm the finished work of Jesus Christ and give you comfort instead of fear. 2 Corinthians 5:10 is our first passage. What is the judgment seat of Christ? Will my life be flashed up on some huge movie screen? Here's the good news - your sins have already been judged. Jesus took the punishment you deserved. This judgment has nothing to do with sin and there is nothing to fear. John 20:21-23 is troubling because it begs the question of when the apostles received the Holy Spirit. Is the Holy Spirit given twice? And what does it mean when it says "if you forgive anyone's sins, their sins are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven." Do believers have the authority to forgive sins? Richard and Bob take a deep look at this passage and clarify what it means for the believer.
