The Pioneer and Perfecter of Faith

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Joy is something the message of Jesus causes in our hearts. And once it's there, it may be covered up... we may look elsewhere... experience other emotional things that cover it over... but that joy is still there. Sometimes we just need to rip away those barnacles and have that joy shine through us again. Hebrews 12:1 "Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us..." His joy imparted to us. The joy of the Lord is our strength.

The Joy Given by the Holy Spirit

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer, Andrew Farley

We see in the Book of Luke that the proclamation of Jesus' birth - the very reason for our joy. And in 1 Thessalonians 1:4-6 we read: "For we know, brothers and sisters loved by God, that he has chosen you, because our gospel came to you not simply with words but also with power, with the Holy Spirit and deep conviction. You know how we lived among you for your sake. You became imitators of us and of the Lord, for you welcomed the message in the midst of severe suffering with the joy given by the Holy Spirit. "

The Cause of Joy is Jesus

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

One of the things that mark the Christmas is joy. In Luke about the birth of Christ we read: "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people.' And we see at the end of Jesus' life he says these words: "I am coming to you now, but I say these things while I am still in the world, so that they may have the full measure of my joy within them." Jesus' grace is what brings joy and thankfulness to us.

You Are Free - Lesson 35

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

God's plan for the Israelites was freedom. But Pharaoh was stubborn. He was not going to let the Israelites go. They were far too valuable to him and the Egyptian economy. Through a series of plagues, God displayed his awesome power. And with each one, Pharaoh's heart hardened even more. It was the last plague, which we know as the Passover, that compelled Pharaoh to let the Israelites go. The story of the exodus describes your new life in Christ. Your old way of life has come to an end. You are no longer a slave to sin. You are a child of the living God. But not just a child. God declared you to be a son. (Chapter 11, page 83)

Christ is Our Joy!

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

There is no more appropriate theme for the month of December than joy. So many are full of joy upon their salvation but lose it over time. Why? Because they've replaced the joy of the Lord with salvation by works. Joy comes from keeping our eyes on Jesus. He is our joy.

Serve God by His Spirit

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

We hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving and was able to celebrate all we have to be thankful for. We can walk in God's grace, enjoy His love, and walk in true fellowship because of His grace toward us. So how do we give thanks and how do we truly worship God? In Philippians 3 Paul warns us to "Watch out for those dogs, those evildoers, those mutilators of the flesh. For it is we who are the circumcision, we who serve God by his Spirit, who boast in Christ Jesus, and who put no confidence in the flesh..."

  • #GivingTuesday is tomorrow. We want you to participate in Giving Tuesday.

  • Patty "really wants to get this grace" and asks Bob for clarification on how to grab hold of it.
