Thankfulness: A Manifestation of Faith

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Hebrews 13:15

  • Happy Thanksgiving to each and everyone of our listeners. It's a wonderful day to set apart and take stock of all that we have to be thankful for. Thankfulness in a believer's heart is really a manifestation of faith in Christ. A true thankfulness for all we have in and because of Jesus. Hebrews 13:15, 16 "Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that openly profess his name. And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased."
  • Jessie wants to know if this message concerning salvation through the finished work of Chirst is really true.

The Power of Serving One Another in Love

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

We find the greatest joy in life today in serving one another in love. It is truly love in action. And love in action is the most powerful form of worship. Bob is serving this week with Blue Skies Ministry in Florida. Blue Skies ministers to families whose kids have been diagnosed with cancer. The Blue Skies leadership and volunteers serve these families with love and help connect them to the New Covenant. That's why we're so grateful for Basic Gospel listeners who give of their resources to serve others in love ... you are serving by connecting people to the hope of the gospel, the life-changing message of Jesus Christ.

  • Ellie wants to know how we are to honor the Sabbath day.
  • Mike wants to know if Jesus' death erased the sins of all mankind.

Christ Alone is Worthy

Richard Peifer, Bob Davis

I've always been fascinated by Revelation. There worship is described like nowhere else in Scripture. In chapter 4 and 5 John paints an incredible picture. "Day and night they never stop saying: 'Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty,' who was, and is, and is to come." "You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased for God persons from every tribe and language and people and nation. You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God, and they will reign on the earth."

  • Maria wants to know how we be perfect in Christ and yet still called sinners? Is this correct?

You Are Free - Lesson 34

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

The people of Israel suffered for 400 years at the hands of the Egyptians. They were living in the wrong place, under the control of the wrong person, carrying out the wrong purpose. But God did not leave them there. Freedom was his plan. Just as the Israelites were delivered, Jesus Christ delivered you out of darkness. He set you free by unlocking the chains of sin and death that held you captive. Your hope of living life to the full in anchored to his power and presence in you. This hope trumps fear. And it silences all those legalistic voices, both internal and external, that say you can't handle freedom. Christ in you says you can!

A Stewardship Decision

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

In 1 Timothy 6 we see Paul's about money. "For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs." How does a heart that worships God handle money? It's more than just giving. It's about a stewardship decision. It's about how you use your money in every area of life.

Where is Your Treasure?

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Worship is really the way of the heart and there's no more indicator of that then our giving. Matthew 6:19-24 "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. ... "

Confidence to Enter the Most Holy Place

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer, Andrew Farley

What are obstacles to true and genuine worship? In Hebrews 10 we learn the issue had to do with the forgiveness of sins. The sacrificial system was not adequate to take away sin. But once we realize and accept the finished work of Christ on the cross we can draw near to worship, totally cleansed, totally forgiven. We have confidence to enter in the Most Holy Place.

  • William comments on obstacles to worship.
  • Are believers still expected to observe and honor the Lord with first fruit offerings today?

Confidence to Enter the Most Holy Place

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Whatever or whoever we worship is going to control us. We've probably all put something or someone in that place and lent them power they don't really have. We need to realize who we should worship and worship Jesus Christ alone. Hebrews 10:1-3 "The law is only a shadow of the good things that are coming—not the realities themselves. For this reason it can never, by the same sacrifices repeated endlessly year after year, make perfect those who draw near to worship..."

  • Charlotte's friend is convinced that she's a psychic and wonders how she can address this.
  • Karen comments on worship.
  • Psalm 146 "Praise the Lord. Praise the Lord, my soul. I will praise the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live. ..."
  • Karen from California asks about the forgiveness in the Lord's prayer.

You Are Free - Lesson 33

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

We are honoring our veterans today. They deserve honor, respect and dignity for the service of the brave Americans who have sustained the freedom that we all enjoy. Freedom comes at a price and we should be aware of the sacrifice of those who have fought to defend it. Enjoy this special edition of Basic Gospel!
