Who was Melchizedek and why is Jesus compared to him in Hebrews? He collected a tenth from Abraham and then blessed him. Jesus is from the tribe of Judah. The change of priesthood requires a change of the law. Jesus is this new priest and brings a better hope. Jesus is permanent high priest because he lives forever. This is good news!

There is nothing in this world we can rely on. The world is falling apart and yet there is hope - a most amazing hope. 1 Corinthians 15:3-8 "For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures ...". If we try to add or take away from this we have less than the Gospel. If there is a sin that Jesus did not die for, then we have no hope. But he did and therefore we do.

The entire Gospel is presented in Romans 5:10: For if, while we were God's enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! In God's rich mercy, he demonstrated his love for us at the cross of Jesus Christ. We were enemies of God because of sin but Jesus' death removed the barrier of sin and his resurrection moved us from spiritual death to spiritual life.

As believers we receive the message and they we want to get established in the message. There's one truth we cannot forget: "for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure." Philippians 2:13 In everything we do Jesus Christ is the source. What is God doing in us? He is working to bring truth to these minds of ours so they will line up to the truth of his Word so we'll make choices that align to His will.

The book of Hebrews is rich in encouragement. Believers are encouraged to grow and mature in their faith. Once there is a strong foundation in the basics, then it is time to move on and mature in that knowledge. God's purpose for you is unchangeable — his desire is for you to know Him. This gives you encouragement to hold fast to your hope, the anchor of your soul.

This morning we woke up to the news of Billy Graham's passing. He was "America's pastor". He was a true evangelist and challenged everyone as to their final destination. As a tribute to his life we want to present the only message worth sharing - the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

As believers in Christ we live in Christ. John 15:5 "I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing." When we were lost we were under bondage to the law of sin and death. When Christ appeared we were rescued from those bonds and now live in Jesus - our new dwelling.

Where do you live as a believer? It's one of the most important questions to answer. We live in the world, but that's not where we abide. We abide in Jesus. We once abided in the world, but we were rescued from the world and placed into Christ.
