Hebrews - So Great a Salvation, part 4

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

Jesus Christ is superior to Moses. He is the one sent from God and the high priest of our confession. Jesus is worthy of more glory than Moses, as the builder of a house has more honor than the house. Jesus is the builder and Moses is a member of the house. Moses testified to the things that were to be spoken later about and by Jesus. Jesus is over God's house. Under the New Covenant, we are God's house and Jesus is firmly established as the head. All of this is to help us recognize that the New Covenant is superior to the Old.

The Hope, Inheritance, and Power

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Andrew Farley

Ephesians 1:18-23 Paul prays that we as believers would see what we already have in Christ Jesus. This isn't grasping for something new. It's celebrating what we already have. So many have resigned themselves to a second-class Christian life. They aren't tapping into the power of the resurrection. So how does a Christian tap into the power of the resurection?

A Rescue Mission

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

As part of the basic Gospel that we understand is that we have been transferred out of darkness and placed into God's kingdom. In our old life we lived to gratify our desires, but we've been ripped from that and placed into this new place. And now we are controlled by the love of God - having an attitude of gratefulness. Colossians 1:13, 14 "He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins."

  • With reference to Matthew 27, Ron says he is confused about people being raised from the dead after Jesus was crucified, and had not yet been resurrected Himself.
  • Does scripture give any clear evidence that the people who are in Heaven think about us on earth? Can they see us? And will we think about those who went to hell?
  • Maria asks about the "prosperity and healing" many preach and so many believe.
  • What is your greatest fear? Debra answered: "being left alone - widowed and without her children".

Empowered to Live

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Romans 8:1-2 "Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus ..." Before Jesus we were a mess. But now that we're in Christ there is no condemnation. Why? "because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death." The law of sin and death - those prison doors have been opened so we can walk in the new way of the Spirit.

Hebrews - So Great a Salvation, part 3

Richard Peifer, Bob Davis

Why should we pay such close attention to this salvation we've been offered in Jesus? Because knowing how great a gift you have been given changes your life! Jesus became a human being and experienced suffering and death so that we might become his family. Now we see Jesus crowned in glory because he conquered death. We too conquer death when we come to Him by faith. That's the good news of Hebrews!

Walk in the Newness of His Life

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer, Andrew Farley

When we grab hold of the truth of the forgiveness we have in Jesus Christ it gives is the foundation to live the newness of life we have as children of God. All of our sins have been forgive - past, present, and future. Romans 6:1-14 "What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it? ... " The grace of God teaches us to say "yes" to righteousness.

  • Deuteronomy 30:6 "And the Lord your God will circumcise your heart and the heart of your offspring, so that you will love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, that you may live."
  • Andrew calls with comments about foundational truths, living in grace, and loving others.

Standing in Grace

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

The Christian life is walking by faith and serving others in the love of Christ. It's hearing, believing, and living the truth of the Gospel. But if you're not sure about your new life in Jesus it's easy to get moved away from the truth of the Gospel. Acts 15:1-5 "Certain people ... were teaching the believers: 'Unless you are circumcised, according to the custom taught by Moses, you cannot be saved.' ..." Who has come to you and said, "it's necessary for you to - fill in the blank - to be saved?"

No Strings Attached

Nothing can separate you from the love of Jesus Christ. if you're going to walk in truth, you're going to walk in the truth that God loves you.
