The Mandate

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

We're talking about our mandate to be a part of God's work here on earth. 2 Corithians 5:18-20 "Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation, namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself ...". We have a purpose - to make an appeal for individuals to be reconciled to God. To receive what Christ has completed.

An Atmosphere of Liberty

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Andrew Farley

We've been placed into the body of Christ. Each one of us have been equipped by the Holy Spirit with different gifts to serve the body. I tweeted yesterday: "Freedom rings loudest when we through love serve one another." In the midst of celebrating the freedom we have in Christ we can server one another in love.

  • I am walking a fine line, and now its time to step into the issue of the spirit vs. the flesh. Please give me insight to take the final step to serve the Lord!!!

True Freedom in Christ Alone

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

A special Independence Day broadcast from Basic Gospel. — I love the 4th of July. It's a wonderful experience for us as Americans that enjoy this freedom everyday. But on a much deeper level there are many who are looking for freedom in their souls. In John 8:31, Jesus tells us if we hold to his teachings, we will be his disciples. When we hold to his teachings, we will know the truth, and that truth will set us free. Freedom is what Christ has in mind for each and every one of us. This freedom can only come through Jesus Christ. When we come into this freedom, we shouldn't use it to serve ourselves, but use our freedom to serve one another in love. Are you in bondage to sin? Would you like to be free from that bondage today? Accept Jesus' words as true, know that He is our savior, and you will be set free from the bondage of sin.

A Greater Purpose

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

We have been joined to the body of Christ. We belong to each other. We need to learn how to live out this new role through the New Covenant in which we live today. We've been called to a greater purpose. What is the ministry of the church? It's to testify to the grace that saves us, that sustains us, and that perseveres with us through our entire lives.

  • There's no greater freedom than that which we have in Jesus Christ.
  • James calls to encourage listeners. The Gospel is really his story.

Hard Passages - Part 6

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

These hard passages often cause great confusion:

  • Matthew 5:48- "You therefore must be perfect as your heavenly father is perfect." The context is in the Sermon on the Mount; a sermon where Jesus deals with subjects like anger, lust, divorce, retaliation, loving our enemies. All of this leads up to this command, be perfect. Jesus is teaching us that we cannot be perfect in our own power ... only the blood of Jesus makes us perfect inside and out.
  • Malachai 3:10. "Bring the full tithe .... I will open the windows of heaven for you..." This verse has been used as what amounts to extortion for generations. People are in fear that God will not provide if they don't pay tithe. Instead we are called by grace to give generously.
  • Matthew 23:23, 24 is often used as a verse for tithing. Really it is Jesus' encouragement to grow in the grace of God and learn to excel in the grace of giving, not a command to tithe.

Complete in Christ

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

C 2:9, 10 "For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and in Christ you have been brought to fullness. He is the head over every power and authority." In Christ you are complete. You're exactly as God planned you to be. This is so important for us and children of God to understand - that we are made complete in Him.

  • In 1 Corinthians 2 :16 Paul writes about having the mind of Christ. How is this different from a believer in Jesus Christ having Christ's consciousness?
  • Beside control why do so many complicate the salvation process? Why do we complicate the simplicity of the message?
  • You said on your show that we cannot be both sinner saved by grace and children of God... please elaborate.

Sealed and Secure

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer, Andrew Farley

Through faith in Jesus Christ we now live in the spirit. Ephesians 1:13 " And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit ..." You have received the gift of God's spirit - which means you are a child of God. This gives us the confidence to live out our lives today.

We Live in The Spirit

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

If you are a believer you are no longer in the flesh, but in the spirit. Romans 8:9 " You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ." Jesus Christ rescued us. We can't go back. We now live in the spirit. When we do those old things we know that who we are no longer fits with the old way of life. We have no obligation to the flesh anymore.

Life and Peace

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Many times we act as if we're in the flesh. But the Scripture is clear that we are always in the spirit. Romans 8:5-9 "Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. ... You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. ... "

Hard Passages - Part 5

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

One of the most confusing passages in the Bible is 1 John 1:9. We have been asked about this verse about a million times in our 35 years of ministry because it seems to contradict all the other verses that proclaim forgiveness of sins. Do we have all the forgiveness or do we need more? Is 1 John 1:9 the Christian "bar of soap"? Understanding this passage is key to clearing up any confusion about forgiveness. It's all about context ...
