To All the Saints

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer, Andrew Farley

Philippians 1:1 "To all the saints in Christ Jesus who are in Philippi ..." Recognize who you are and when you do, live it out. This is an exchange of identity. We were once sinners and have been made saints through our new birth in Jesus Christ.

Made Pure by Jesus Christ

Richard Peifer, Bob Davis

1 John 3:3 "And everyone who has this hope fixed on Him purifies himself, just as He is pure." You have been declared pure by Jesus. What does this mean? Revelation 1:5, 6 "... He has made us to be a kingdom, priests to His God and Father ...". We have been made priests in His kingdom. And we are called to faith, hope, and love in 1 Thessalonians 1.

Walk as Children of the Light

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

1 John 3:1 - 3 really follows our tag line "hear it, believe it, live it". We are children of God. We can't be anything else. Child of God learn to trust Jesus, to live by faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ. We are called to walk by faith, not by sight.

  • Wayne calls to share his favorite verse: Galatians 2:20 "I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me."
  • Are we a sinner saved by grace or are we a child of God?

Called Child of God

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

1 John 3:1 "See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!" Let's embrace our true identity and allow it to effect every aspect of our lives.

No Better Identity

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

God goes to great lengths to let you know who you are in Christ. When you're saved you're no long identified with Adam - you are identified with Christ. Romans 8:14-17 "For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, 'Abba! Father!' ... " There is no better identity than being a child of God.

  • A caller is concerned that he's blasphemed the Holy Spirit and is asks what he has to do to be saved.
  • Another caller asks about what happens when we die. Are we immediately in Heaven with Jesus?
  • Jessie wants to know how much of the Holy Spirit lives in her. Does she need more?

A New Identity in Christ

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

Romans 8:9

  • Identity is a critical issue for daily living. If we don't know who we are we won't know where we're going. Adam and Eve didn't have those questions. But when they fell, those questions took the center focus of human history. Paul wrote about this in Romans 8 "Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death."
  • Bob talks about last week's confirmation hearing for Russell Vought and Bernie Sanders questioning of his stand as a Christian. If we have the Son, we have life. If we don't have the Son, we don't have life.
  • Derron asks about James statement about faith without works and how that fits into Christian life.
  • Clay asks about 1 Thessalonians 5:23 as it concerns our identity.

Bought at a Price

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

When you talk about marriage - the two becoming one - it's really about identity. And that's why Paul uses marriage as a picture of Christ and the church. 1 Corinthians 6:16-20 "Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, "The two will become one flesh." But whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit. ... Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies."

  • If a born again believer dies because of sin on their behalf or dies during the act of sin, do they face judgment and hell or is there still a place waiting for them in Heaven?

Hard Passages - Part 3

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

We continue with our Hard Passages series. Today we look at two passages that often become a stumbling block to our assurance of salvation. Many times we might overlook the book of Hebrews, thinking it's only applicable to Jewish people. If we will pay attention to the words of that book, we will find it to be an incredibly beneficial, practical instruction in the Word. The book of Hebrews is written primarily to assure us that the New Covenant is superior to the Old. Hebrews 6:4-6 and Hebrews 10:26-29 must be filtered through the truth of eternal security. Once you become a child of God, there is no going back. You are eternally a child of God because Jesus lives forever and he has given his life to you. You can rest in that truth.
