Free to Serve

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer, Andrew Farley

The Gospel message and the love of Christ is lived out in relationships. It's lived out among people. Being controlled by the love of God allows us to submit to one another in love. Jesus gives us an identity deeper than our roles but that identity shapes our roles. It changes the whole way we relate to one another. We are free to serve one another.

What is the Lord's Will?

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

This month we're talking about relationships. If we don't have a firm foundation in Christ our relationships suffer. Every relationship has conflict. But how do you deal with conflict. Ephesians 5:15-20 "Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. ... be filled with the Spirit..."

  • Ray wonders why so few teach the fulness of forgiveness.

Fully Take Hold of the Grace of God

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

We're saved by grace. We live by grace. We're fueled by grace. "Grace is where we stand, live, and breathe. It is the realm of our existence. It is Christ in us and us in him." Grace empowers us to live this life. Acts 20:32 "Now I commit you to God and to the word of his grace, which can build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified." Romans 6:14 "For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace."

The Foundation of Grace

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

The foundation is the most important part of any building you see. And the same is true of our lives. We have to have a solid foundation and the only foundation is upon the grace of God. If there is a connection between God and man it is through the grace of Jesus. In Ephesians 1:7, 8 "In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace that he lavished on us."

Living a Sunday Life in a Friday World - Lesson 42

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Law as a rule of life rests squarely on the shoulders of human effort. The law does have a purpose - to show you your need for Christ. But that purpose does not supersede God's greater purpose for you. The first step in living by faith is to let go of human effort. The "Sunday" life is a life of faith. It is a life that is led by and empowered by the Spirit of God. (Chapter 13, page 96)

Truth Revealed

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

How do we know the Bible is true? How do we know we can rely upon it. How do we know we can rely upon it for life? 1 Corinthians 2:9, 10 "However, as it is written: 'What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived'—the things God has prepared for those who love him—these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit." The Spirit of God makes the Word of God known to us.

  • Samuel asks about Paul's description of belief. "If you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."

What is the Story of the Bible?

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Andrew Farley

The Word of God from start to finish is God's testimony about his son. John 5:39-40 "You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse to come to me to have life." The story of the Bible is Jesus.

Stand Upon the Foundation

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

We have to stand on the foundation of truth. Truth is pivotal. For everything... for every relationship we need a foundation of truth. Where do we go for truth? Jesus. He is the source of truth. We have Jesus as truth and the Word of God as truth and we have the Spirit of God who leads us into all truth. Paul wrote: "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." 2 Timothy 3:16, 17

"Your Word is Truth"

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

In John 17 Jesus prays for his disciples and those that would follow. He prays, "Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth." All truth is bound in Jesus Christ. Truth is foundational. Truth transcends what is happening the world. If we look for this truth we will have stability in the chaos in which we live.

Living a Sunday Life in a Friday World - Lesson 41

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

In Romans 10:3-4, Paul draws the line between the way of the world and the way of Christ. It is the difference between law and grace. Resurrection life is lived by grace through faith. The law can't save us. That is Jesus' job. The law points us to him. The purpose of the law has a purpose and that is to show you your need for Christ. The law diagnoses our spiritual problem, but it cannot provide the cure. The cure is Jesus Christ living in and through us, by faith. (Chapter 13, page 95)
