1 Corinthians 13:4-7 "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. ... " When you get connected to the love of Christ, his love can be poured out through you into the lives of others. The Goal - Lesson 46

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect. That's the command in Matthew 5:48. Is the meaning of perfect "flawless perfection"? Telos is a Greek word that has philosophical roots extending back to Plato and Aristotle. The word refers to an end or a purpose. Plato and Aristotle believed that there were ends, or purposes, to which all of life was leading. In other words, what happens in the world is not accidental. There is a propelling force moving the world to a stated end. Telos also has biblical roots and it is a word that is significant in telling the Gospel story. One of the meanings of the word telos is "wanting for nothing". It's a place of contentment. Read Matthew 5:48 again in light of this meaning of the word. (Chapter 14, page 103)

Courage in Relationships

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Relationships are difficult and if we don't know Jesus they are even more difficult. Apart from Christ we try to get that other person to meet our needs. When we rest in the gifts he's given us then we actually have something to pass on to another to make that relationship what it's meant to be. It takes courage to serve one another in love.

Be Kind and Compassionate

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer, Andrew Farley

Forgiveness has to be part of every relationship and that's exactly what Scripture encourages us to do. "Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you." Ephesians 4:32 So what exactly does that mean? How can we do that for another person? As we stand upon the solid rock of Christ, we can extend forgiveness towards others.

Communication in Relationship

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Communication is a vital key to relationship. So often... too often... communication causes a breakdown of relationship. When it comes to the important issues, people often become silent. "For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh." The first part of communication is listening.

The Goal - Lesson 45

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Think of the law as a servant serving a house with a greater purpose. The purpose is to set us free from the law of sin and death so that we could be filled by the Spirit and led by the Spirit as children of God. We have been released from the law so that we can serve in the new way of the Spirit. The new way of life is a life of faith, led by and empowered by the Spirit of God. All the weight of life is on Jesus; we simply rest in Him, trust in Him, and allow him to live his life through us. The first step of living a Sunday life in a Friday world is to let go of human effort. Living by the Spirit is trusting God to complete the work he began in you. (Chapter 14, page 101)
