"Not My Will, But Yours Be Done"

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

When we understand that God has our best interests in mind regardless of our circumstances we can trust him. So when you face trials and tribulation, remember that God loves you and he can take everything you're going through and work it together for good and your prayers can reflect the heart of Jesus when he said, "Not my will, but Yours be done." And when you come out the other end, you can say along with Paul, that God's grace is sufficient and nothing can separate me from the love of God.

  • A caller asks if it is the cross alone that saves and how to keep from sinning.

Jesus' Prayer for Us

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

We often talk about and put together prayer teams so God will better hear us. But what would happen if Jesus was on our prayer team? When we look at John 17 we see his prayer for us. ""My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one— I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me."

A Matter of Thanksgiving with Steve Frissell

Richard Peifer, Bob Davis, Steve Frissell

Steve Frissell joins Bob Davis and Richard Peifer to discuss prayer today. He delivered a message last year about Christian Cliches and regurgitated prayers at Bent Tree where he servers as family pastor. "For so long praying was something I had to do to get close to God. I thought God was mad at me. I no longer have to pray from a place of feeling guilty. It really is now from a place of knowing I'm forgiven, I'm loved, and I'm in relationship with God. Even the things that I pray have changed." Knowing that Jesus has already won allows us to be truly thankful as we pray.

The Hour Has Come...

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Today we're looking at John 17 where Jesus prays in the garden and through that prayer we see his heart toward us. ""Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you. For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him. Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent." This is perhaps the only definition of eternal life in the Scripture and we learn that it's about the quality of life. As we get to know him we get to experience his life. This is truly about intimacy and relationship.

Let Go - Lesson 26

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

We look at the topic of forgiving yourself. Often we have an easier time believing that God has forgiven us, and yet we cannot forgive ourselves. The Bible doesn't even address this issue. It is always about God forgiving our sins. Hebrews 9:22 is a foundational verse and we encourage you to memorize, underline, and take to heart the truth in this passage. CS Lewis said "if God has forgiven us, then we must forgive ourselves". This teaching session will help settle this issue once and for all in your life. Understanding our identity in Christ is the key to letting go of our old labels and embracing our new identity - child of God. (Chapter 9, page 63)

Faithful in Prayer

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer" (Romans 12:12). What does it mean to be faithful or devoted to prayer? Because Christ is our life, because he lives in us, our prayer is a reflection of our relationship. This is actually a part of living out of the Gospel. Prayer is not based on works - it is solely about relationship. Our relationship with God and our relationship with others grows as a result of prayer. It focuses our attention on the initiator of faith - God. We simply respond to Him.

A Point of Connection to Truth

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

1 Timothy 2:1, 2 "I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness." Ultimately God is still in charge. We need to have this sense of calm that God really is sovereign and we have an opportunity to participate in that. God's will is that all will be saved and come to a knowledge of truth.

No Uncertainty in Christ

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God." There is so much in this world that fills the heart and soul full of anxiety. How do you get over that? There are various levels of anxiety. It's something that disturbs us on the inside, but we have a powerful weapon against anxiety and that is prayer.

Prayer: A Powerful Weapon

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Life is tough. There's all kinds of things that hit us not matter our financial status. And in the midst of all the things that cause us trouble, we're told to not be anxious about anything. So how is that supposed to work? Anxiety is usually attached to future events. It destabilizes our peace of mind. Philippians 4:6, 7 "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

They're All Gone - Lesson 25

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

If God is the only one who has the authority and power to forgive sins, why does the Bible encourage us to forgive others who have sinned against us? We can trust God to work this act of grace through us toward others. Once we understand the pure gift of forgiveness, it only makes sense to extend forgiveness to others. God has done a powerful work for you in Christ. Listen again to the words of Jesus: "Your sins are forgiven." This is Jesus's message to you.
