By Prayer and Petition

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

How do we deal with tragedy in this day and age? Where do we turn? Philippians 3:6, 7 "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

By Faith, We Uphold the Law

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Romans 3 at first glance looks like Paul is joining faith and works. Romans 3:25, 27 "God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood—to be received by faith. ... he did it to demonstrate his righteousness at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus." How do we participate in this grace? By faith. Both Jew and Gentile enter into the grace of the New Covenant by faith. Romans 3:31 "Do we, then, nullify the law by this faith? Not at all! Rather, we uphold the law."

  • Is it wrong for a Christian to call themselves if we are indwelt by God?
  • Brad asks about showing oneself approved.

Faith: Our New Way of Life

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer, Andrew Farley

Once we came to know Jesus Christ, faith became our way of life. Faith is completely different than the law. In Romans 5:1 we read "therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ" How many people are looking for peace? It starts with the Gospel. When we have peace with God we can then truly have peace with one another. We live by grace, through faith in Jesus.

  • Brad talks about faith coming from God
  • Cindy asks about studying to show yourself approved for those who have learning or reading disabilities.

From Fear to Faith - Lesson 20

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

We begin a new chapter this week, From Fear to Faith. Jesus's accomplishment on the cross means your sins are no longer an issue with God. They've been forgiven. Nothing more needs to be done. From a human perspective, this doesn't sound right. Isn't there something more that needs to be done when we sin? The New Testament has much to say about this. The overwhelming evidence in these passages will move your heart from fear to faith. Fear turns grace into a reward. This is NOT the way of grace. Are you willing to trust the love of God to turn your fear to faith? (Chapter 7, page 49)

Giving by Faith

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

What does it mean to walk by faith? Hebrews 11:6 "And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him." Faith is active. It's lived out. And when we live by faith, we're going to see the life of Christ lived out through us.

Confidence of What We Hope For

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

How do we live the Christian life? By faith. Faith is something brand new to us when we come to Christ. Apart from Jesus faith has no meaning. We're no longer asked to live according to the law but to live in faith upon the finished work of Jesus Christ. He alone fulfilled the old to usher in the new. In Hebrews 11 we read: "Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see."

It is Finished - Lesson 19

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Why the cross? The cross was God's way of taking away our sins once for all. Jesus offered his body as sacrifice for sins. This once for all sacrifice allows us to say that we are totally forgiven. God's plans cannot and will not be thwarted. Everything that happened in the story of Jesus' death was used by God to accomplish his perfect plan for us. The most precious three words in all of Christendom are "It is finished." Jesus shed his perfect blood as payment for the sins of mankind. The darkest day in human history ushered in the most wonderful provision for us - the New Covenant.
