We Preach Christ Crucified

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

We want to figure out how to stand out in this world and that was certainly happening in Paul's day. We see that in the city of Corinth. I love how Paul attacks and does away with in in his letter to the Corinthians. We're talking about sanctification which is simply being set apart for our original design. "...but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles," Jesus becomes our righteousness, our sanctification, and our salvation. "It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption." 1 Corinthians 1:30

Live Out the Truth in Love

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

2 Thessalonians 8, 9 "And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will overthrow with the breath of his mouth and destroy by the splendor of his coming. The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with how Satan works." Satan works through lies and deception. We read that people perish because they refuse to believe the truth. What about those who have received eternal life? John tells us we have the truth living in us. I believe our mandate as believers is to deliver the truth of the Gospel. Live out the truth in the love of Jesus Christ and we will make a difference in the world today.

Set Free by Truth

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

One of the great statements of Jesus Christ is, ""If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."". 2 Thessalonians . 2:9 - 12 "The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with how Satan works. He will use all sorts of displays of power through signs and wonders that serve the lie..." We've been set free by Jesus to reject the lie and embrace the truth.

The 180 - Lesson 6

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

We continue with The 180 today. You can't experience life to the full if you are still holding on to your old life. There's only one reason you would hold on to that life - because you think it has value. Let God change your mind. You know you're there when you see your spiritual death as the beginning of your good-news story. You can't change death. There is nothing you can do to change that condition. At that point the only thing you can do is to put all that you are and all that you will ever be in God's hands. This is called faith. This step of faith is the most courageous step you will ever take. God doesn't want "better" people. He wants "new" people - people who are fully alive in him. Are you willing to place all that you are in the hands of Jesus, the one who is the resurrection and the life? (Chapter 2, page 16)

Pray for Opportunity to Be a Voice

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

This is the National Day of Prayer. All across America there are prayer events. One of the things we've been set-apart for is to pray. We have been given this new relationship and can speak directly to God. 1 Tim 2:1-4 "I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people—for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth." I encourage all of our listeners to pray for opportunity to be a voice for the Gospel and to be ministers of life.

Washed - Sanctified - Justified

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer, Andrew Farley

When God looks upon this planet He sees two people. Righters and unrighteous. "And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God." 1 Corinthians 6:11

Set Apart to be Used by God

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

The will of God for us is to rely upon Jesus Christ. Jesus was sent into the world to do the will of His Father. What was the will of the Father? In Hebrews 10 we read: "Then he said, "Here I am, I have come to do your will." He sets aside the first to establish the second. And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all." What did the blood of Jesus do for each of us? It set us apart to be used by God.

Once Sinners, Now Saints

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

This month we will be talking about sanctification. The word really means using something for its intended purpose. For example, if you use a ball point pen, you are using the pen for its intended purpose. We'll see how the word applies to believers all through the month.

The 180 - Lesson 5

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Today we look at the chapter The 180. This is a very personal chapter to me. I wrote about my father's death. He died suddenly at home. Seeing him the casket just seemed so final and hopeless. Yet, just as dad went from life to death in an instant, when we believe in Jesus Christ we are changed in a heartbeat from death to life. A complete 180. To do a complete 180, we must look at the word repentance. It is the first time that we truly "fix our eyes on Jesus". Repentance is centering our mind on Him and Him alone. It is taking my eyes off worldly effort and fixing them on Christ Jesus. Salvation is not a self-improvement program - it is moving from death to life. God gives us a brand new life - in Jesus. A perfect example is the life of Paul. His encounter with Jesus on the road to Damascus turned Paul from unbelief - a complete 180-degree turn. Jesus' love, grace and mercy turned this blasphemer into a preacher, changed an enemy into a friend, and transformed the "chief of sinners" into a saint. This is the power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Eager to Do What is Good

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

We introduced you to our teacher yesterday, and that teacher is "grace". It teaches us to say "no" to ungodliness and worldly passions. That is so different that what the world teaches us. The grace of God teaches us to say "no" to sin. The law only shows us what sin is and then stirs up sinful desires. That's why it's so difficult to live under the law. Grace teaches us to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in this present age.
