Made Righteous in God's Sight

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Justification was the very thing that opened up Protestant reformation. Martin Luther study of Romans led him to see the justification that is by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone. That's the good news of the Gospel. In Romans 3:19-20 Paul writes: "Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world held accountable to God. Therefore no one will be declared righteous in God's sight by the works of the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of our sin."

Interview with Abraham Hillel

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Abraham Hillel

Our special guest is Abraham Hillel, our tour guide for the February 2017 trip to Israel. Abraham has been our guide before and is an amazing font of information. Abraham's passion is to make sense of the history of Israel. Unless you understand the history, religion of any kind is hard to understand. In Christianity, Israel is a physical place to experience and understand our religion. Abraham's goal as a tour guide is to help people understand how and why events happened the way they did. Abrahams favorite place to introduce new visitors is Jerusalem, Christian or not. Jerusalem is mentioned more than 500 times in Old Testament and150 times in New. You will be able to physically walk in the footsteps of the One who walked there over 2000 years ago. Bob also gives an overview of our upcoming trip. Justification and Life

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Through the 2,000 years of church history, whenever grace is fully taught people ask the same question Paul posed in Romans 6:1 "What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase?" And we read in Romans 5:15 "But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man, how much more did God's grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many!" Through one man, Jesus, justification and life was provided for all people.

God's Guy - Lesson 2

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

So often, we start our Christian lives making promises to God. Promises we can't keep. Like Paul wrote in Galatians 3:3 we are foolishly trying to live the Christian life in the flesh rather than the Spirit. And that was me. But I finally realized I needed to go back to the simplicity of the grace I responded to at the end of a summer camp at 12 years old. What about you? When did you respond to the grace of God? When did you realize that as Paul wrote in Romans 5:8 "...God demonstrated his own love for [you] in this: While [you] were still [a] sinner, Christ died for [you]."? C.S. Lewis wrote: "When Christ died, he died for you individually just as much as if you had been the only person in the world." As a result of God's grace, we are forgiven people, we've been made alive in Christ, we share in His resurrection, His grace teaches us to say "no" to sin, builds us up, gives us an inheritance, and so much more. So rest in the sufficiency of God's grace as you walk through this life with Him. (Introduction, page 2)

A Saint Forgiven Forever

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

We're talking about justification by faith and by faith alone. There's nothing we can do to justify ourselves. God shows us his favor through justification. 2 Corinthians 5:21 "God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God."

God Justifies the Ungodly

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer, Andrew Farley

Romans 4:5-8 "Now to the one who works, wages are not credited as a gift but as an obligation. However, to the one who does not work but trusts God who justifies the ungodly, their faith is credited as righteousness. David says the same thing when he speaks of the blessedness of the one to whom God credits righteousness apart from works: 'Blessed are those whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. Blessed is the one whose sin the Lord will never count against them.'"

The Righteous Will Live by Faith

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Romans 1:16, 17 "For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile. For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed—a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: "The righteous will live by faith." Justification means to be declared righteous. And we are declared righteous through faith in Jesus Christ. No one can be declared righteous through the law. What is the Gospel? The death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Through the Gospel, righteousness is revealed.

Justified By Faith

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

We're going to talk about justification this month. It's a churchy word. But we often try to justify ourselves. From a Biblical standpoint it has great meaning to us. We read in Romans 5:1 "Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ." If we can grab hold of justification we can know peace.

God's Guy - Lesson 1

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Welcome to the first edition of our teaching series, Simple Gospel Simple Grace! As a college student, I made a vow to God. "God, I know I've been a disappointment to you. Thank you for a clean slate and for the opportunity to start fresh in college. From this day forward, I promise to by your guy." That promise didn't last very long. We often make promises to God regarding our actions, thoughts, speech, etc. There is a disconnect between what we want to do and what we do. As Paul said in Romans 7:18 "I have the desire to do what is good." We incorporate human effort to bring it about, and we fall flat on our face every time. We need to understand the grace of God. As Martyn Lloyd-Jones wrote, "The Christian life starts with grace, it much continue with grace, it ends with grace." The Christian life is simply grace from start to finish. (Introduction, page 1)

His Love Made Complete

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

The reconciling work of Jesus really changes our minds. We receive his reconciliation and he has equipped us to be ministers of reconciliation. 1 John 4:12 "No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us." As his love changes who we are, we can pass his love to others. His love flows into the lives of others.
