This is Love...

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

1 John 4:10 "This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as as propitiation for our sins." This is one of those signature verses that we need to lean into on a daily basis and as we do the love of God will pour into our hearts and then into the lives of others. When we move our hearts to what Christ has done and are satisfied with his sacrifice then we're on the same page as God.

Love Moves Us from Death to Life

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

"For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God's abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ!" The power of God's love moves us from death to life. It makes us children of God rather then enemies. He chose to send Jesus to save us.

Demonstrative Love

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Romans 5:8 "But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." If we don't understand the love of God demonstrated at the cross, we're not going to understand the love of God. I know there are people worried sick that God is going to punish them. God is not punishing you for your sins. 2,000 yrs. ago Jesus saw every sin you would commit and took those sins upon himself and took the full wrath of God to pay your sin debt in full. Settle the issue that if you are in Christ, you are forgiven.

The Crossover - Lesson 10

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

What happens to a person when he responds to the Gospel through faith? Many would respond to that question based on what they did ... walked an aisle, prayed a prayer, etc. We want to look at what happens as far as God is concerned. The answer is found in John 5:24 - when someone responds to the Gospel through faith we cross over from death to life. Understanding this truth is key to our Christian life falling into place. (Chapter 4, page 25)

How Can We Be Sanctified?

Richard Peifer, Bob Davis, Andrew Farley

There are two things that get set apart. There's me and then there's my behavior. In Hebrews 10 we see God setting us apart as children of God. So often we turn these two separations into one. We are not our behavior, we have become new creations and realize that if the Lord returns right now, He has made us His children. We are free from waiting, hoping and pleading for more.

A Special Memorial Day Broadcast

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Welcome to a very special Memorial Day broadcast as we remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and the families they've left behind. We know what the Bible has to say about this: "Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends. You are my friends if you do what I command."

  • There are two sacraments we celebrate as the church. Those are baptism and the Lord's Supper. The first thing we realize is that both of these start with the memory of sacrifice - Jesus' death on the cross. It's a time of celebration because of the freedom found through His sacrifice. It is a joyous occasion to remember all that Christ's death accomplished for us. God remembers our sins no more. We have been set free from the law of sin and death. Through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ we have been made holy. We have been set apart for God's use. Apart from Jesus' sacrifice that would not be possible.
  • Today, as you remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom, think about what Jesus has done for you by His death.
  • All of us look for a sense of purpose. What is our purpose in life? It is to be used by God. That's what it means to be made holy - to be set apart by God for His use. Jesus made that possible. There is nothing more worthwhile than to make ourselves a "living sacrifice" for God's work.
  • Philippians 2:12, 13 "Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose."

The Essence of Faith - Lesson 9

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

The writer of Hebrews tells us "faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance of what we cannot see (Hebrews 11:1). "Without faith, it is impossible to please God because anyone who comes to him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him" (Hebrews 11:6). That's the essence of faith. Faith is tied to Jesus Christ. Apart from him, it is just an empty meaningless word. But when Jesus Christ shows up, that word fills with life, substance and meaning. We continue examining the story of Abraham and Isaac and see how Abraham's faith was lived out. Abraham was tested, at the critical moment, and his faith proved genuine. He truly believed God had power over death. Here is where belief in the resurrection is crucial. Do you really believe this to be true? If not, perhaps it's time for you to step into the faith of Abraham and experience the reality of the resurrection. (Chapter 3, page 22)

Sanctified by God's Truth

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

In John 17 we read: "I have given them your word and the world has hated them, for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world. My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. They are not of the world, even as I am not of it. Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth. As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world. For them I sanctify myself, that they too may be truly sanctified." We are sanctified by the Word of God.
