Jesus: Our Hope of Glory

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

Col. Paul had this to say in his letter to the Colossians. It's something we need embrace. "Now I rejoice in what I am suffering for you, and I fill up in my flesh what is still lacking in regard to Christ's afflictions, for the sake of his body, which is the church. ... To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory." Our guarantee of what we have in Christ Jesus is our hope. Regardless of what surrounds us, we have Christ.

New Birth Into a Living Hope

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Why were the three men "Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego", so much more important than the thousands of Jews who were sent to the Nazi gas chambers, firing squads, ovens, death marches in the winter, or locked and abandoned in railroad box cars? Where was God as millions perished during Hitler's persecution of 6-8 million Jews and non-Jewish political opponents?

The Power of the Holy Spirit

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer, Andrew Farley

Romans 15:13 "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit." The Holy Spirit is the source of everything we experience positive in this life today. He's the source of hope, peace and life. Regardless of what's going on in your life today. He is our hope.

Shadow and Reality - Law and Grace - Lesson 14

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

In our last session we looked at the purpose of the Law - to show us our spiritual condition (death) apart from Christ. Once we come to Christ, the Law is fulfilled in our lives. Rather than following a set of rules and regulations, we have the Holy Spirit inside of us, teaching us to say "no" to ungodliness and encouraging us to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this world. We are no longer under the condemnation of the Law, but are free to live, fully alive in Christ. Grace is not a "what". Grace is a "who" - God Himself living in you via the Holy Spirit. To live by grace is to be led by the Spirit of God. In short, grace is the opposite of law. Grace provides everything law cannot. Grace overpowers the law. Why? Because grace is Jesus himself, living in you by his Holy Spirit. Step out from under the shadow of the Law, into the light of Jesus - your life will never be the same! (Chapter 7, page 75)

Hope for Here and Now

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

In light of this conversation on hope, I want to talk about our future. Paul writes: "I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed. For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God."

The Promise of God's Love

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Romans 5 says "hope does not disappoint us" and that's the hope we have in Christ. Hope lifts us up. "And we boast in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope." We started with rejoicing and we come full circle and we see this hope solidified in our hearts because God has poured out His love in our heart.

A Sure and Steadfast Hope

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Sometimes we finder ourselves in hopeless situations. We are without hope. That's the situation Abraham found himself in and God promised him an heir. We read in Romans 4 :18, 19 "Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him, "So shall your offspring be." Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead—since he was about a hundred years old—and that Sarah's womb was also dead." What has God said to you? What has God promised to you?

The Gospel That Has Come to You

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Hope is tied to the person and work of Jesus Christ. In Colossians Paul writes: "We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, because we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love you have for all God's people— the faith and love that spring from the hope stored up for you in heaven and about which you have already heard in the true message of the gospel 6 that has come to you." So where did this hope come from? It came from the hope stored up in the Gospel. Christ in you - the hope of glory.

Shadow and Reality - Law and Grace - Lesson 13

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

In Chapter 7 we look at law and grace. What is law and what is its purpose? What is grace and why is it better than law? When you answer these questions, you will know how to live - by faith in Jesus Christ. The New Testament is clear. Just as you were saved by grace through faith, you are live by grace through faith. Galatians 3:25 tell us, "Now that faith has come, we are no longer under the supervision of the law." This is a pivotal issue in Christianity -and one that every believer must understand. Let's dive in! (Chapter 7, page 71)

The Hope Set Before Us

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

We're talking about the hope bound up in this Gospel message and when we talk about the Gospel we bring hope to people. Anytime you tell someone about Jesus you're bringing them hope. Hope is always coupled with the expectation of that hope. Hebrews 6:13-20 "When God made his promise to Abraham, since there was no one greater for him to swear by, he swore by himself, saying, 'I will surely bless you and give you many descendants.' And so after waiting patiently, Abraham received what was promised." Let God's promise be your anchor and hope. ...
