They Will Call Him Immanuel!

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer, Andrew Farley

We've been sharing passages about the birth of Christ. Matthew describes it this way: "The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel" (which means "God with us") 1:23. So many look at the virgin birth and reject it. But was it necessary for Mary to be a virgin? Jesus was born of the Spirit of God, not the will of man. So by His very nature - that He has always been - if He is to live as man, He has to be born of the Spirit. If Jesus came into the world like us, He would have the same fallen nature as we do.

Full of Grace and Truth

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Merry Christmas to all of our listeners. I know there are many anticipating that special day. The Gospel of John doesn't really give an account of the birth of Christ. But in John 1:14 we read that, "The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.". Jesus was fully God and fully man at the same time we can't understand that. But it is true. Jesus came into this world full of grace and truth. If we want to know what's true in this world we have to look to Jesus.

Born to Be King of the Jews

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Many people think that Judaism is completely different from Christianity. The book of Matthew dispels that myth. Matthew starts with a genealogy. He starts with Abraham all the way through Jesus. He is of the bloodline of David. He came into the world as king. Herod didn't want anyone to take his place and the announcement by the Magi caused jealously in his heart. Satan worked through Herod to kill all the male babies 2 yrs. old and younger. But God told Joseph to escape to Egypt. This babe born to be the king of the Jews was a problem to the world and the world stood against him.

New Life—Experiencing the Power of the Resurrection Here and Now - Lesson 12

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

We have come to the subject of the resurrection of Christ Jesus in our study. Jesus' victory over sin provided reconciliation and forgiveness. This was absolutely essential to bridging the gulf that existed between God and us, but it was only the first half of God's total solution. God wasn't done with his miracle of grace. He had something more for you! The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the single most important event in human history and His resurrection has significance for you today. The essence of eternal life is that we can know God the Father and Jesus the Son. It is the resurrection that makes this life possible. That's good news! (Chapter 6, page 61)

You Will Find Rest for Your Souls

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Yesterday we talked about the words Jesus gave to the Pharisees So what were these teachers doing? Giving a heavy load of rules and regulations to people to live up to. And today many have received similar rules and regulations trapping them in legalism and hopelessness. So many want to be "God's Guy" and they try to live up to those rules and it simply weighs them down. What Jesus offers is so much different than a heavy burden. He said, "Come to me all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest." If you want to experience a yoke that is easy, come to Jesus. He's already taken the load.

The Real Story of Jesus

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Merry Christmas everyone! We've been talking about why Jesus came and we know that He came to show us the Father. He came to show us Himself in the Old Testament. Luke 11:46 "Jesus replied, "And you experts in the law, woe to you, because you load people down with burdens they can hardly carry, and you yourselves will not lift one finger to help them." If you're struggling under a weight of religious conviction and condemnation, will you hear the real story of Jesus? When you do, it will set you free.

Christ Came to Make the Father Known

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

We've been talking about the reason Jesus came to earth. We know that He came to do His Father's will so we can stand before God as righteous. In John 1:18 we read, "No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known." So Jesus came to make the Father known. This is how we come to know God. This is all part of the marvelous relationship we have with God through Jesus.

The Death of the One—Christ Finished Work on the Cross - Lesson 11

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

What did Christ's death accomplish for us? He bore our sins and poured out his life for us. Jesus' blood was of such value that He was able to take away sins, once for all. Hebrews 10:11-14 is an important passage to mark - Jesus' sacrifice was complete and He sat down at the right hand of God. Jesus willingly laid down his life, of his own accord. We know it all to be true because of Jesus' own words - "It is finished". Sin has been dealt with, never to be dealt with again. Are you in Christ? Have you gone from death to life? If yes, you HAVE forgiveness. Ephesians 1:7 proclaims this - "In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins." Jesus took on the greatest rescue of all time. Jesus lived a sinless life and died a perfect death, and by doing so he solved the sin problem once for all. In Him, you are a forgiven person. Rejoice in that truth - it will change your life! They Will Call Him Immanuel

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Jesus came to earth for us... for our benefit. God had a will for us and it could only be accomplished through Jesus. He had us in mind. I love what the angel said to Joseph: "But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, 'Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife,...'" Matthew 1:20. So often we're afraid to take a step in faith. "...do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins." We will always have Jesus with us.
