We Have Forgiveness of Sins

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Death. Burial. Resurrection. That's the good news. I don't know that any of us would start with "death" as good news, but that's the reality of the Gospel. In Romans 4:25 Paul writes, "He [Jesus] was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification."

  • Was the baptism in Acts 2:38 water baptism?
  • Do you see any reason not to be cremated? Can God raise my ashes?
  • If a Christian is living disobedient to God do they grieve the Holy Spirit?

Essentials of the Faith

Bob Christopher, Richard Peifer

The Gospel message is Jesus Christ, from start to finish. We enter into that by faith alone, in grace alone, through Christ alone. The basic gospel is the centerpiece to the Christian life. It is the only message that unites believers.

  • How do I harmonize James 4:4 with justification? "You adulterous people, don't you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God."
  • Eugene sees water baptism as a sign of being born again.
  • Gerald contends that Paul's admonition was one of not following an individual.

"I and the Father are One"

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

One of the conversations Jesus had with the people is recorded in John 10:22-30 "...Jesus answered, "I did tell you, but you do not believe. The works I do in my Father's name testify about me, but you do not believe because you are not my sheep. My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me..."

No Eye Has Seen...

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

What happened after the resurrection? The next month or so. Jesus appeared to the disciples and to 500 at one time. Thomas recognized Jesus as "my Lord and my God". After Jesus appears to the two on the road to Emmaus they replied "Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?" Luke 24

His Life in Full

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Through the resurrection power we can have life to the full. In John 10:10 we read, "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." When we learn to depend on Him we can experience our life to the full.

  • Please explain Matthew 16:28. "Truly I tell you, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom."
  • Please explain Matthew 13:52 "He said to them, 'Therefore every teacher of the law who has become a disciple in the kingdom of heaven is like the owner of a house who brings out of his storeroom new treasures as well as old.'"
  • William shares how he can better understand the Old Testament in light of the New Testament.
  • Jesus has already forgiven past present and future sins so shouldn't we just confess our sin instead of asking forgiveness?
  • Why did it take so long to fully understand God's grace. Was it the Holy Spirit that revealed this to me?

If God is For Us...

Bob Christopher, Richard Peifer, Andrew Farley

As we encounter people one of the things that is constant is that people feel God is against them. But in Romans 8 we read, "If God is for us, who can be against us?" So we pray that this will be an encouragement for you as you go through this life.

  • If you were to ask God for help, how do you think He would address you?
  • What is the meaning of Jesus washing the feet of the disciples and does that apply today?
  • Why is the whole world trying to move us away from our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ?
  • Do we receive rewards for what our good works on earth?

Not a Self-Improvement Course

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

We celebrated the most important event in the world this past Sunday. But what does Christ's death, burial, and resurrection mean to us today? Christianity isn't a self-improvement course, it's God's life in us. 1. God's presence in us. 2. God has power over death. 3. He has power over life's problems.

  • What is antinomianism and does it apply to true pure grace believers?
  • How does fasting apply to New Testament believers?
  • Please explain James 4:13-17 "Now listen, you who say, 'Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money...'"

Have You Heard Jesus Call Your Name?

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

I love the story of the resurrection account as John tells it. He tells it from Mary's perspective. "They have taken my Lord away," she said, "and I don't know where they have put him." At this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not realize that it was Jesus. He asked her, "Woman, why are you crying? Who is it you are looking for?" Thinking he was the gardener, she said, "Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will get him." Jesus said to her, "Mary." John 20:13-16

It is Finished!

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

On this special Good Friday edition of Basic Gospel, Bob tells the story of Jesus' trial and execution as God demonstrated His incredible love for us as Christ took our sins on Himself, paying the ultimate price so that we could share in His righteousness and resurrected life. Richard gives insight into the Old Testament sacrificial system and what it meant to the Israelites. He goes on to compare the Old Testament and it's many sacrifices to the one perfect sacrifice of the New Covenant.

"Why Do You Look for the Living Among the Dead?"

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

This Sunday Christians around the world will celebrate the single most important event in human history. In Luke 24:1-12 we read, "On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus..." So many reject the resurrection. But God is able to raise the dead and that's the hope we have in Christ.

  • Can you describe the Temple? And does "It is finished" refer to the destruction of the Temple?
  • Isn't it ironic that it wasn't the disciples that witnessed the empty tomb but rather women?
  • Marie describes her doubts and feelings of inadequacy. She has a hard time accepting her new identity in Christ.
  • Brad expresses thanks for Basic Gospels' focus on resurrection life.
