What is the Cross?

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

So many believers struggle to live the Christian life. It was the same for me. When we look at the Old Testament we see that God provided escape for His people from the Egyptians and then gave them the Law of Moses. It was ratified or put into effect by blood. Hundreds of years later we see Jesus who ushered in the New Covenant and when did that go into effect? In Hebrews 9 we see that it went into effect when Jesus died. This New Covenant is God's will for us. What is the cross? It is the place of change.

  • I believe in justification by faith. But how do we answer Paul's assertion that if we don't run the race we can become disqualified? 1 Corinthians 9:27
  • I see God's will as a living will. What do you think?
  • Gary understands that even the OT saints were saved by faith and asks "Is that true?"
  • Sab asks about the punishment from God in Jonah 3:10 and how God can punish if He is love?

Ratified with His Blood

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

Jesus Christ is alive. That is Good News. Had Christ not been raised we would be hopeless. But because we have resurrected life in Christ we are now ministers of the New Covenant—a ministry of life. He comes to give His life to us and live His life through us. 2 Corinthians 3

The Spirit Gives Life

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

As we enter the new year it's wonderful to revisit those passages that are foundational. And one of those is found in 2 Corinthians 3:6 "He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant—not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life."

  • Where do we place our faith? On what object? On good things, or prayer, or fasting, or something else?

It's All About Jesus

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Welcome to the first broadcast of 2015. It seems like every year magazines look at the Bible or Jesus. In the current Newsweek ( tinyurl.com/mmz833q ) they look at the Bible and site a few polls. One finds that Evangelicals ranked only a smidgeon higher on the New Testament than self-proclaimed Atheists. I found this incredible.

  • I heard a pastor say that "no one loved Jesus while He was on earth". Can you expound on that?
  • The Bible is a book about Jesus.

Welcome to the New

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

A special New Year's Day broadcast from Basic Gospel. So many make resolutions for the new year looking for new hope. But our real hope is found in Jesus Christ. I like the word "new." I'll bet you do too. It is an exciting word, especially when it is attached to things like cars, houses, gadgets and even the New Year. We all like "new" things and we want "new" things. Are you in Christ? If so, for you the old has gone and the new has come. A new life - Romans 6:4. A new identity - John 1:12. A new self - Ephesians 4:24. A new heart - Ezekiel 36:26. A new covenant - Hebrews 9:15. A new command - John 13:34. A new way - Romans 7:6. The Old Has Gone...

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer, Andrew Farley

When we received Christ, we said goodbye to the old and hello to the old. We have a new priest. We have a new forgiveness. We have a new freedom. We have a new identity.

  • "...have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man,he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death..." Philippians 2
  • Are believers still supposed to offer first fruits to the Lord today?
  • Can God send another Messiah to save the world?
  • I've been told that anti-depression drugs are a replacement for Jesus. What do you think?

Made Perfect Forever

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

I love the end of the year. Everyone has a "top ten" list for the year and we at Basic Gospel have our own. What did we talk about this year? The two things we talked about the most were apologetics - defending the faith, and salvation - what is it, what does it mean, and do I have it. Those were tied for first. Please listen to the archive for the rest.

The Image of the Invisible God

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

As I think about the new, I always think about Jesus. He is already in our new year. He is the image of the invisible God. 1 Colossians 15. We can look forward to this new year because "He is before all things, and in him all things hold together."

Faith - part 1

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Bob Christopher, Richard Peifer and Bob Davis join together for this special teaching edition of Basic Gospel. They explore the "how" of faith - how our faith begins, how it matures, and how it manifests in our life. Based on 1 John 12, Bob identifies three stages of faith. The first stage is Rest and Security - understanding that our sins have been forgiven and the truth of Romans 8 which says "nothing can separate us from the love of God". The second stage is Victory - it is our maturing faith that allows us to sense the Word of God directing our steps, enabling us to overcome life's trials and temptations. The third stage is Purpose - our faith fulfills God's purpose, to become a reflection of God's goodness, glory, grace, forgiveness and love in this world. Enjoy this special teaching edition!
