With a thankful heart, it is possible to weather the storms of life, knowing that God is more than able to renew your mind and has promised to work all things together for good.

We're talking about emotional bondage and how even believers can find themselves in this place. For most of us this is a result of our erroneous thinking. Romans 12:2 "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will." Once you get your thinking right your emotions will follow suite

The truth that we're not alone—Jesus is with us—gives us hope for today. This month we're talking about some of the toughest issues we go through and that's emotional issues and bondage. We can get to a point where we're feeling anxiety and fear spiraling toward full depression. But how do we get out of this? When we recognize the link between our thinking and emotions we can have our minds renewed with truth and be free from these negative emotions.

In this special teaching edition of Basic Gospel, we look at the "how of faith" - how we grow in our faith and how it impacts daily life. First and foremost, we need to keep our eyes on Jesus who is the author and finisher of our faith. We need to see His love as demonstrated at the Cross, then His power in His resurrected life. That same resurrection power lives in us - we are infused with the Holy Spirit. And we begin to see His purpose which is always for our best and our benefit. Then, we need to seek the mind of Christ through the Word of God. The Holy Spirit will reveal the meaning of Scripture to us when we are ready to receive it and He will show us how to apply it to our daily life. Finally, we will begin to work out what God has worked in us, allowing the 'river of life' to break down the dams of resistance we have built and overflow from us to others. We will see this inner working in all areas of our life, including forgiving ourselves, forgiving others, seeking forgiveness from people we have wronged, and we will become willing to give our time, talents and resources from the heart in order to advance the message of God's love and grace.
