The Builder and Architect

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer, Andrew Farley

Last month we learned about who we are... our identity. This month we're talking about the church. We ask the question, what is church? The building is just a building. The church is made of of believers. In Matthew we see that Jesus is the builder and architect of the church and it's made upon the truth that Jesus Christ is Lord.

  • Ephesians 4:11-13 "So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ."
  • Did Moses actually speak with Jesus Christ?
  • What is the judgment that we will stand under as believers?
  • Should we have secular music and dancing at Christian conferences?

Can I Sit at Your Table?

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

One of the most awkward times for the kid is the lunchroom. They're wondering which table to approach and to what group they belong. Wanting to belong is a lifetime issue. If we understand our identity in Christ we have a new identity we can hold fast to. Even Peter found himself looking for the "right table" to sit at. Galatians 2:11-14 "...before certain men came from James, he (Peter) used to eat with the Gentiles..."

  • I heard a pastor say, "if you are poor, you don't have to tithe ten percent". Is this true?
  • A friend of mine who knows the Gospel chooses to study with Jehovah's Witnesses. I find this troubling.

We Belong to Another

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

We're called children of God. It's one of the greatest things we have. We now know who we are. So many look for their identity elsewhere. For us God has answered those questions. In Romans 7:4 we learn that we "died to the law through the body of Christ, that you might belong to another, to Him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit for God."

  • What is the unpardonable sin? How do we blaspheme the Holy Spirit?
  • I find it hard to minister to those who believe in God, but don't believe in the Word of God. How do you give a defense of the Word of God?
  • Tim calls to encourage Eugene reminding him that nothing we do for the Lord is useless. 1 Corinthians 15:58 "...your labor in the Lord is not in vain"
  • How do I reach my son who has embraced atheism?

Adopted as Sons

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Who in the world are you? If you've come to Christ by faith, you are a child of God. That's not just a nice thing to say, it's based on the change made in us through the Holy Spirit. Identity is central to our daily living. We live out who we think we are. Galatians 4:4-7 "But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law..."

  • In Ephesians 2 it states that Jesus died to create one new man. Since Jesus died to create as one new man from Jew and Gentile, why doesn't the church teach this?
  • At what point does our spirit go to be with Christ?
  • I've lost the joy of my salvation. I was disobedient to what God told me to do and I see that as the point that something changed. What can I do?

The End of the Law

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

We all know God is real... He exists. But at some point we ask the question, "What does He think of me?" and we struggle with that because we know who we are. Because of the sacrifice of Christ we have a new identity. Romans 10:4 "Christ is the end of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes." Step into this and embrace that you are righteous in Christ.

  • I'm meeting with a Jehovah's Witness who believes that Christians can lose their salvation. What can I say to him?
  • Can you explain Hebrews 10:29 concerning "sanctified him"
  • Please explain "whatever you bind on earth shall be loosed on earth and whatever you bind in Heaven will be bound in Heaven".
  • I have a struggle believing I committed the unpardonable sin. I was saved in my twenties... but I've been through heartache with my daughter and can't seem to draw near to God.
  • What is original sin?

A New Creation in Christ

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer, Andrew Farley

So what is the practical application of our identity in Christ? God didn't just give us a new label. He made us new creations in Christ.

Our Lives are Hidden With Christ

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Colossians 3:1-4 is such a rich passage. "Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory." We could spend months discussing this passage.

Citizen of Heaven

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

We have this wonderful new identity in Jesus Christ and it's ours because He lives. We are join heirs with Him and we have a new citizenship in Heaven. Philippians 3:20 "But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ..." and Colossians 3:1-4

No Longer I...

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer, Jeannie Thompson

Today we welcome a special guest, our own Jeannie Thompson. Jeannie is retiring today, but in reality she will become our number one volunteer. Jeannie shares that it's the love and grace of Jesus Christ it's nothing that I do. "I can't wait to see what the Lord teaches me tomorrow. I was raised in a Christian home and I knew that He saved me, but I didn't have a personal relationship with Jesus. Galatians 2:20 has always been a foundational verse for me."

  • Many early church fathers believed that one could lose their salvation based on 2 Peter 2. If what they believe is true, how can anyone have any hope?
  • Is there a difference of the prophecies between the prophet Nahum and Jonah?
  • Gil encourages us with Psalm 119:71, 67 "It was good for me to be afflicted so that I might learn your decrees." "Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I obey your word."

Seated With Christ

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer, Andrew Farley

How are we in Christ? What does it mean to be seated with Christ? Know that we are in Him and He is in us and that is our spiritual geography.

  • Do we have all authority today? Whatever we ask in His name, will we have it? Stick to what the Bible says and know our authority is to point people to Christ
  • Can we get kicked out of Heaven? Hebrews 9 We are saved completely. The enemy will be destroyed
  • Can we fall from Heaven like Satan? God will not kick out His children. One day we will be "Absent from the body and present with Him"
