Trust the Living Christ

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer, Andrew Farley

We're talking about freedom and we read this wonderful passage in Romans 7:4 "So, my brothers and sisters, you also died to the law through the body of Christ, that you might belong to another, to him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit for God."

  • John 7:46 "No one ever spoke the way this man does," the guards replied.
  • It seems that so many ministries are all about money—prosperity—and this seems so wrong.
  • When I came to the Lord so many years ago I embraced my salvation. And now it feels like I've lost my zealousness, almost like I've back-slid. Where did I go wrong?

The Approval of Man or God?

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Paul wrote this to the Galatians, "It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery." We often fall back into slavery when we seek the approval of others. We are never outside the favor of God when I'm in Christ Jesus.

  • I received your CD, "Drive the Stake" and your book, "Forgiveness: The Door to Life". Thank you.
  • When we enter into intercessory prayer do we pray to saints or to Jesus? Are we all saints?
  • If a person is saved and they're still practicing the sins they were saved from, will they make it into the Kingdom of God?

Made Perfect in Weakness

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

When we're under the God's control we will not be under the power of sin. That is true freedom indeed.

  • I've heard others call in about overcoming and I found strength in 2 Corinthians 12:9,10 "But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong."
  • Did Jesus or God create the universe?
  • What would it look like to submit to your husband? How can you know if it's too much?
  • If repentance a matter of the heart, how do you interpret Luke 17:3,4? "If your brother or sister sins against you, rebuke them; and if they repent, forgive them. Even if they sin against you seven times in a day and seven times come back to you saying 'I repent,' you must forgive them."

True Freedom in Christ Alone

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

A special Independence Day broadcast from Basic Gospel. — I love the 4th of July. It's a wonderful experience for us as Americans that enjoy this freedom everyday. But on a much deeper level there are many who are looking for freedom in their souls. In John 8:31, Jesus tells us if we hold to his teachings, we will be his disciples. When we hold to his teachings, we will know the truth, and that truth will set us free. Freedom is what Christ has in mind for each and every one of us. This freedom can only come through Jesus Christ. When we come into this freedom, we shouldn't use it to serve ourselves, but use our freedom to serve one another in love. Are you in bondage to sin? Would you like to be free from that bondage today? Accept Jesus' words as true, know that He is our savior, and you will be set free from the bondage of sin.

Words of Freedom

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Tomorrow we celebrate the independence of America and people all over the United States will be celebrating this event. But the freedom we have in Christ is much more significant. When Jesus speaks the words of forgiveness to you and me those are true words of freedom. "In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sin..." Ephesians 1:7

  • Doesn't a belief that you can lose your salvation reveal someone that doesn't have faith in Christ Jesus?
  • June writes, "Freedom to me is best explained in the Apostle Paul's meeting before Agrippa... In reality, Agrippa was the one in bondage and Paul though chained was totally free."
  • Where do Jews [who die] go while they've been 'put aside'?
  • How do I help my children understand what they have in Christ?

Freedom in Forgiveness

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer, Andrew Farley

Because Jesus is alive, He can speak words of truth and freedom into our lives that change us. Jesus said the paralytic, "Son, yours sins are forgiven." And those are freeing words. He says that to us today when we come to Him.

  • Christ came to take a way the sins of the world.
  • Do you believe miracles ceased with the Apostles?
  • What set me free is to ask God to see myself as he sees me.
  • Why do we still sin?
  • I was told that I can lose my salvation... that if I did wrong long enough God would give up on me.
  • Is there a reason why Jesus never used the names of God used in the Old Testament?

The Freedom to Know God

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

The true presentation of the Gospel introduces us to true freedom. And we find that we have to take off the mask, the hard shells, and just be ourselves in God's presence. It's a scary thing. But that's where the cross and the resurrection are so vitally important. Because when we realize what was accomplished we can lay down those things are enjoy this new relationship with God.

  • Can a believer overcome temptation?
  • Adam shares his story of growing up under Islam as a slave to sin and hatred and once he came to know the Lord all the hatred was gone. "Jesus truly set me free. I'm no longer a slave to sin."
  • Why would a pastor say that any Christian that does not fight to overcome sin should be cut off from the church?
  • I've hear from so many that God is removing His hand from this country. Is that true?

There is Freedom

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

Paul wrote this, "Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom." If we want to experience freedom in our souls we have to experience it through the Holy Spirit. Tomorrow we start a new topic for the month of July—Freedom.

  • Is permission necessary to start a Bible study in the home?

Led by the Spirit

Bob Christopher, Andrew Farley

Paul had this to say, "For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God" in Romans 8:14 It is the most normal and natural thing for those in Christ to be led by the Spirit. We've been given the mind of Christ and the counsel of God is always there.

  • How can some say there's no difference between the Old and New Covenants?

Flesh or Spirit?

Bob Christopher, Andrew Farley

We've been talking all this life about the role of the Holy Spirit in our life. What is Paul talking about in Romans 8:5-8 "Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires..."

  • Is repentance a turning away from sins? Is it external? What is the Spirit's role in turning us away from the old way of life?
  • What does Paul mean by "sinful nature"?
  • I don't understand Romans 7. Where does the responsibility of the human being begin?
