Renewing Our Minds

Bob Christopher, Andrew Farley

Bob and Andrew talk about the STAND2014 conference that was this past weekend. One of the things we talked about is how the Holy Spirit teaches us to say "no" to sin. In Titus 2:11 we read, "the grace of God has appeared to all men..."

  • What is predestination?
  • Andrew will be in The Bronx at World Changers Church July 16 and Bob will be at the American Bible Society July 24th.
  • Does our obedience have anything to do with salvation?

Grieving the Spirit

Bob Christopher, Andrew Farley

What does it mean to grieve the Holy Spirit?

  • How do I answer those who don't believe once we have salvation we can never lose it?
  • How do I answer those who don't believe once we have salvation we can never lose it?
  • What can we do to stop sinning?
  • Why do so many believe that the wages of sin is to be out of fellowship?

Our True Spiritual Gift

Bob Christopher

Today we're going to look at the gifts of the Holy Spirit and how they're to be used in the body. The language that God wants to speak through us is love. That's the most important language. As we get connected to the love of Christ we see that love—the fruit of the Spirit—pouring out through us.

  • Romans 12 "Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will..."

The Purpose of Spiritual Gifts

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Join us for a special teaching edition of Basic Gospel as Bob Christopher and Richard Peifer discuss the purpose of Spiritual Gifts. This message is based mainly on Paul's teaching in First Corinthians, chapters 12 and 14. There are different kinds of Spiritual Gifts, but the same Holy Spirit, who is the Spirit of Christ living in all believers, is the giver of all. We must trust Him to choose the gift that is right for each one of us. The purpose of these special gifts is the edification of the body of Christ locally and throughout the world. If we administer our gifts with love and harmony in Christ, they enable us to speak the language of God's love to all people.

We invite our special guests and STAND2014 speakers, John Lynch and Andrew Farley. John, Andrew, and Bob talk about what they'll be sharing at the conference today, Friday, and Saturday.

  • Andrew talks about his new book "Relaxing with God", available July 1.

My Presence Will Go With You

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

As I think about the Holy Spirit and His role in our lives I always think about Exodus 33. Moses led the people out of Egypt and toward the promised land. In the desert Moses is talking to the God about the people being "stiff necked". Moses makes and appeal to God. And God promises "my presence will go with you".

  • It's upsetting to talk to those who curse. How can I have a conversation with them about God. 2 Corinthians 5:11-16
  • What is the difference between the Holy Spirit in the Old and the New Testament?
  • STAND2014 starts tomorrow.

The Work of the Spirit

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

We're talking about the work of God's Spirit in our live and that work is grace. For by grace you have been saved through faith. But there's more to the story than just the transition from death to life. Philippians 2:12,13 "Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose."

  • I have family members who aren't Christians and they shun me away when I try to talk to them about eternal things.
  • Can you shed some light on "once saved, always saved"?

The Fruit of The Spirit

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Last week we talked about the Spirit led life. But what does that actually look like? How do we know we're being led by the spirit. Galatians 5:22,23 "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law."

  • What is the roll of antichrist?
  • It's conference week already. Can you believe it? stand2014.com
  • What does it mean that perfect love casts out all fear?
  • Please explain Matthew 15:21-28. It seems like an insult to the woman?

A Special Tribute to Fathers

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

I wanted to share this quote from Jim Valvano. "My father gave me the greatest gift anyone could give another person, he believed in me." This Sunday we celebrate Father's Day and the role of the father is one of the most important things in a child's life. I could not have had a better father. He was the greatest influence in my life.

  • In Ephesians 5 and Colossians 3 we see what life looks like being controlled by the Spirit of God and under that umbrella all these family relationships can thrive and grow.
  • Mario's father shared with him that he should be ready for his next life and it was only later that I understood what he meant.
  • Mark calls to talk about his father and what he meant to him.
  • God is mindful of us to invite us to call Him "Father". And He does that through Jesus Christ. When we approach God through Christ, we see Him as He really is. He is love. He is for us and not against us. He wants us to be in His presence. The Gospel connects us to our Heavenly Father through the work of Jesus.

No Eye Has Seen, No Ear Has Heard

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Have you ever had the experience of wanting to read the Bible, reading the Bible daily and still not understand what you read? This is the Holy Spirit's ministry in our lives. So often we approach the Bible academically, but the Bible needs to be revealed to us. He guides us into all truth. 1 Corinthians 2:9-16 "...'What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived'—the things God has prepared for those who love him..."

  • We're told Christians aren't to judge. But Paul tells us we are to judge those in the church. Are we to judge or not?
  • I was saved just months ago. I know you receive the Holy Spirit when we saved. But does the Holy Spirit give us feelings?
