Simple Gospel, Simply Grace - Part 3

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

First Things First. When we know God's priority for us, we can begin to live as He intends. For many, changing behavior in an effort to become worthy precedes coming to God. God's priority is first to give us life, which is what makes change possible. It is the death of Christ that paid the price for our sins, the death of Christ reconciled us unto God. But the story doesn't end there. It is the resurrection of Christ that makes us alive. Because He lives, we live.

It Is God Who Justifies

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

We've been declared righteous through the Lord Jesus Christ. But so many of us don't live that way because we don't know what it means. Paul speaks to this in Romans 8 ... "Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death." "What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?"

Breastplate of Righteousness

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

Let's talk about how the breastplate of righteousness protects us from the schemes of the world. What does the breastplate protect? It's your heart. And that's one thing that the enemy will attack. The answer to that is always Jesus. All of our armor is found in Christ. God's answer is truth.

Present Yourself to God

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

It's times like this where we can be "knocked off our game" and forget who we are in Jesus Christ. "Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will." Romans 12:1-1

  • Since Jesus is "God the Son" how could He be limited to heaven only? Can God be limited?
  • Jackie calls to comment about Bob's opening comments.
  • Ben asks several questions about forgiveness. Is the whole world is forgiven of their sins? Do we forgive only when someone is saved?

The Course of the World

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

Christians need to use discernment in dealing with the issues of the world. We were all worldly at one time, but God set us free and raised us to walk in the newness of life. The course of the world is not one of righteousness; it is one of division and ungodly living. "As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world ..." (Ephesians 2:1-3).

  • What is your take of Revelation 3:10? "Since you have kept my command to endure patiently, I will also keep you from the hour of trial that is going to come on the whole world to test the inhabitants of the earth."
  • Did I understand correctly that if I've given my life to Christ, I can take the mark of the beast and still reconciled with God?

Simple Gospel, Simply Grace - Part 2

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

The gospel of Jesus Christ is grace from start to finish. Grace is what draws us in, grace is what saves us and grace is what moves us forward. Many of us begin our journey thinking that Christianity is a self-improvement program. And we fail over and over again. This results in two nagging questions: How can I call myself a Christian and yet experience so little power for change? How can I be so sincere and eager yet struggle so much with temptation? When you dig in to these questions, you will discover the truth that will set you free.

Saved Completely and Forever

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

We all need good news in this world today. There's so much bad news in this world. But in the midst of that we have the hope found in Jesus Christ. Unfortunately so many respond in fear when they hear about God. Favor and righteousness isn't something to earn — God gives it graciously through Jesus. For many it takes a long time to come to that truth. No one will be declared righteous by observing the law. How have you tried to make yourself righteous? Romans 10:1-4

The Gift of Righteousness

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Andrew Farley

Righteousness is not ours to earn. It is God's to give. The righteousness of God is a gift received by faith in Jesus Christ. When Paul says that we are slaves of righteousness, that impacts our daily life in a mighty way. Understanding this will change what you choose, how you think, how you treat other people. Righteousness is a total heart transformation and it is given to us freely by grace. Philippians 3:8-9

Boast in the Lord

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

"Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?" 1 Corinthians 1:20-21 There's nothing to boast about in the world. It's all empty. "as it is written, 'Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.'"
