Simple Gospel, Simply Grace - Part 7

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

Paul's conversion is a great example of repentance. Paul wanted to lock Christians up in chains to rid the world of the followers of Jesus Christ. On the road to Damascus, he heard the voice of Jesus. Everything changed at that moment. That's repentance. It's moving from death to life. It begins with a change of thinking - in that moment, Paul repented of his unbelief.

God's Presence With Us

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

What does the grace of God mean to you and me? It starts with a promise. Those who call on the name of the Lord will be saved. And it continues with promise after promise in the New Covenant. This grace of God means God's presence. We were separated from God and through Jesus Christ he has brought us near to him. "Do you not know that you[c] are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in you?" 1 Corinthians 3:16

God's Best for You

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Andrew Farley

There is one gospel, the gospel of grace. Paul emphasizes this throughout his letters. One Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all. Predestination is simply that Jew and Gentile will come to Christ in the same way under the New Covenant. "I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— not that there is another one, but there are some who trouble you and want to distort the gospel of Christ. ..." Galatians 1:6-9

Faithful is the Lord

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

There's no more practical subject to talk about than the grace of God. There's no other way to connect to God. We can't earn righteousness through our effort. Only the finished work of Jesus Christ which brought the grace of God to us. Once we're saved he comes to live inside us and gives us power to live every single day. "For the promise to Abraham and his offspring that he would be heir of the world did not come through the law but through the righteousness of faith. ..." Romans 4:13

  • I'm confused with the work "predestined". I thought Paul defined predestination as "all are called to be children of God."

Promise, Presence, and Power

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

There was no way to break free from the powers that held us - the power of sin and death - apart from the grace of God. We see God's promise, presence, and power through the work of Jesus Christ. Grace entails a promise. It also involves His presence. He wants to be present in our lives. And last we have power. The power of God to live upright and holy lives. His power is made perfect in weakness.

Simple Gospel, Simply Grace - Part 6

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

What does repentance mean? The grace of God moves our hearts and minds from what we once thought was life, meaning, and purpose to the person and work of Jesus Christ. That's the true meaning of repentance - moving from unbelief to belief.

Never Separated

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

When we're talking about law and grace, it really gets down to the covenants. The Old Covenant established through Moses and the New Covenant that was established through Jesus Christ. Recall David who pleaded with God, "Don't take your spirit from me." contrasted with Jesus' plea from the cross, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"

The Ministry of the Spirit

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Andrew Farley

2 Corinthians 3 lays out the contrast between law and grace. Let's talk about why it's important to draw a contrast between law and grace. Paul states God "made us sufficient to be ministers of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit. For the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life."

The Contrast of Grace and Law

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

Everything about this life is grace from start to finish. But often we have to seen grace in contrast to something else. That contrast is typically the law. "For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ." John 1:17 The ministry of Jesus Christ is a ministry life. "What then shall we say? That the law is sin? By no means! Yet if it had not been for the law, I would not have known sin." Romans 7:7

Made Alive in Christ

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

We come into this world, in Adam, dead spiritually. And we're going to continue on that path unless God enters in and rescues us from that path by his grace through Jesus Christ. He gives grace to those who've been humbled and have come to the truth. Romans 3:19-20
