Titus: Session 2

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

Titus was tasked with putting into order the church in Crete. Crete was known for its degenerate culture. This culture was negatively influencing the believers there. As a result, specific qualities were defined for the elders of this new church. Also the warning was given to not let false teaching take hold in the church from the insubordinate, empty talkers and deceivers. The utmost concern for the church in Crete was the message of grace - that it remain pure.

Rise Up!

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

Let's look at the Old Testament in Deuteronomy 6:4-9 "Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates."

Obedient from The Heart

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Andrew Farley

"For the love of Christ controls us, because we have concluded this: that one has died for all, therefore all have died; and he died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised. From now on, therefore, we regard no one according to the flesh." 2 Corinthians 5:14-16

A Brand New Identity

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

There's no other way for us to be saved apart from the grace of God. We've fallen short and there's no way for us to work our way out of our position of a sinner. Only Jesus Christ could make us forgiveness and alive to live by faith in him. "For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures ..." 1 Corinthians 15:1-11

A Special Memorial Day Broadcast

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Welcome to a very special Memorial Day broadcast as we remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and the families they've left behind. We know what the Bible has to say about this: "Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends. You are my friends if you do what I command."

  • There are two sacraments we celebrate as the church. Those are baptism and the Lord's Supper. The first thing we realize is that both of these start with the memory of sacrifice - Jesus' death on the cross. It's a time of celebration because of the freedom found through His sacrifice. It is a joyous occasion to remember all that Christ's death accomplished for us. God remembers our sins no more. We have been set free from the law of sin and death. Through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ we have been made holy. We have been set apart for God's use. Apart from Jesus' sacrifice that would not be possible.
  • Today, as you remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom, think about what Jesus has done for you by His death.
  • All of us look for a sense of purpose. What is our purpose in life? It is to be used by God. That's what it means to be made holy - to be set apart by God for His use. Jesus made that possible. There is nothing more worthwhile than to make ourselves a "living sacrifice" for God's work.
  • Philippians 2:12, 13 "Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose."

Finding Your Place in the Story of Grace

  • Paul's ministry was for the sake of God's elect and their knowledge of the truth.
  • This lines up with godliness that is shaped by the hope of eternal life.
  • God, who never lies, promised this before the ages began.
  • This promise of eternal life was made manifest at the proper time. It was entrusted to Paul to preach by the command of God our Savior.
  • Grace and peace from God the Father and Jesus our Savior.

The Way of Grace is Eternal

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

When many people think about the grace of God they think about their salvation moment. The moment they received Jesus and his eternal life. But too often grace is relegated to that single moment instead of letting grace be their every moment. Paul takes the Galatians to task in chapter 3: "O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? It was before your eyes that Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified. Let me ask you only this: Did you receive the Spirit by works of the law or by hearing with faith?" Galatians 3:1-2

  • If there are numerous churches with some serious divergent beliefs and practices, either theological or cultural, there cannot be complete unity because there is only one truth.
  • What should we make of "tongues" without interpretation?
  • What is the purpose of water baptism? Romans 6 is often used as proof of it being essential in placing you in Christ Jesus.
  • In Philippians 1:6, what does "until the day of Christ Jesus" mean?

The Grace Story

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

Grace is really God's story. We're here because of God's grace. Sin entered in and disrupted the story of grace. But Jesus came full of grace and truth and reconnected us to the grace story. He made us alive with Christ. "And you were dead in the trespasses and sins ... But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ" Ephesians 2:1,4-5

  • A caller asks about her salvation during the time she "fell back into the world".
  • Does the enemy have the power to tempt the Christian?
  • Jo Ann calls to say she has coronavirus. She's been able to share her hope in Christ with others.

The Word of Grace

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

Paul is meeting with elders from the church of Ephesus and writes: "And now I commend you to God and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up and to give you the inheritance among all those who are sanctified." Acts 20:32 There's so much that tries to erode us and we need to be built up and that is done by grace through faith in Jesus Christ.

  • Glen is concerned with seeing "faces" in his surveillance video.
  • Jesus told the woman "go and sin no more". What did he mean by this? Are we capable of not sinning?
  • What are we to make of near death experiences where people have visions?
  • How do we overcome the fear of death?

Be Strong in Christ

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

"You then, my child, be strengthened by the grace that is in Christ Jesus..." 2 Timothy 2 It's so easy to be pulled in all directions and we forget who we are. So remember you are a new creation, a child of God, loved by him and kept by him. So stay focused on Jesus and allow him to strengthen you in his grace and truth.
