The Lord's Supper

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

What does it mean to participate in the Lord's Supper? Let's look at 1 Corinthians chapter 11 to see what Paul had to say. "In the following directives I have no praise for you, for your meetings do more harm than good." Paul does on to say, "It is not the Lord's Supper that you eat... shall I commend you for this?"

  • vs. 27 " ... whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord."
  • What was Paul's answer to all of this? Wait upon one another. If you're hungry, eat at home.
  • What does it mean to participate in the Lord's Supper? It's to do this in remembrance of Jesus. It's about Jesus' sacrificial death upon the cross, his burial, and his resurrection.
  • We belong to Christ and we belong to one another.
  • In the New Covenant he remembers our sins no more.

What if?

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer, Andrew Farley

Let's play some "what if's" today. The Bible actually addresses some of those. Paul addresses "what if Christ is not raised?". What sets Christianity apart is that Jesus is alive today. He's not dead. He's resurrected. And because he's alive I can also live. There were some 500 people who witnessed the resurrected Christ. Those witnesses told others and they believed their testimony.

Declared the Son of God

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

We're talking about the resurrection this week. Apart from the resurrection there is no hope. With it there is hope of a future. It brings hope like nothing else. Why was Paul not ashamed? Why did Paul no the Gospel has power? Romans 1:2-4 " ... the gospel he promised beforehand through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures regarding his Son, who as to his earthly life was a descendant of David, and who through the Spirit of holiness was appointed the Son of God in power by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord."

The Hope of Resurrection

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

This is the beginning of the most significant week of Christians. The death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ is the most important story in the world. When people hear this story and their lives are changed it is the beginning of their life in Christ. We can never tell the story of Jesus Christ too much. Please tell the story of Jesus every chance you have. It's a story that can change your life and every believer's life.

  • Yesterday, Palm Sunday, we saw Christian churches bombed and lives lost. In recent years Christians have been targeted more and more. We need to lift each other up and pray for brothers and sisters around the world.
  • Without resurrection there is no hope. Matthew 16:21 "From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life."
  • What is God's will for you? To experience resurrection life.
  • Brad asks about the Apostles' creed and wonders if it's appropriate to have and recite a creed.
  • Amanda asks if it's OK for a Christian mom to work outside the home.

Eternal Life - Lesson 52

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

God is an infinite being. We are finite. He reveals himself to us more and more as we are ready to receive. Our knowledge of him grows over time. Our initial , incomplete knowledge grows into a fuller or more complete knowledge. John sketches out this progression in his first letter by addressing children, young men and fathers. The Will of God: A Better Covenant

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

The four promises of the New Covenant give us everything we need for life and godliness. We have life, assurance, forgiveness, and relationship. So what happens to the old? The New Covenant makes it obsolete. It's no longer needed. The Old Covenant was weak and useless in helping us reach a right-standing with God. It simply showed us our failures. Only through the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ do we have hope. Jesus is a guarantor of these new promises.

The Will of God: Four Promises

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

What is the New Covenant? It is God's will for your life. It's God's choice to bless you through Christ. It's a one-way act from God to you. In what ways did he choose to bless you? Hebrews 8:10-12 spell out the four provisions of the New Covenant. Romans 8:10-12 "I will put My laws into their minds, And I will write them on their hearts. And I will be their God, And they shall be My people. "And they shall not teach everyone his fellow citizen, And everyone his brother, saying, 'Know the Lord,' For all will know Me, From the least to the greatest of them. 'For I will be merciful to their iniquities, And I will remember their sins no more.'"

The Will of God: A New Promise

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Do you know God's will? It's a question that frustrates many of us. God's will needs to be seen in the light of the New Covenant. This New Covenant... this will of God... is God's choice to bless you through Christ. It's a one-way act. It's God's disposition towards you. So what is the will of God? It's the New Covenant.

The Will of God: A New Covenant

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

This month we're going to be discussing the will of God. Do you know the will of God for your life? So often we think of God's will as the perfect plan for our lives. And when we don't find that "perfect plan" we can get stuck in the mud. In Hebrews 8:8 "... a time is coming when I will make a new will with the people of Israel ... " The old covenant was more like a contract. It had "if then" statements. And Israel failed to live up to that will. So God made a new will. Hebrews 9:16 states: "In the case of a will,[d] it is necessary to prove the death of the one who made it". And once Jesus died this new covenant went into effect.

Eternal Life - Lesson 51

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Why did Jesus come to earth? To make the Father known to you. God initiated this relationship with you. He reached down to you through Jesus Christ. That's grace. His grace worked in you a desire to know him. That's faith. At God's initiative, a union was formed - you in Christ and Christ in you. That was the point when eternal life began for you, when God started making himself known to you in a real and personal way. That's good news! (Chapter 15, page 110)
