God's Will - Your Sanctification

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

We live in a sexually charged society today. Paul lived in times like that as well. And he addressed Christians concerning this in 1 Thessalonians 4:3-5 "It is God's will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you should learn to control your own body in a way that is holy and honorable, not in passionate lust like the pagans, who do not know God; and that in this matter no one should wrong or take advantage of a brother or sister."

Work Out Your Salvation

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

It's the will of God. We've connected that to the resurrection of Jesus Christ. And because he's been raised from the dead we are in the very center of God's will. God's will moves us from the ways of this world and centers us in the life of Jesus Christ. So how do we live out his will? p 2:12, 13 "Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose."

Love the Lord with All Your Heart and Live

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

What does it mean to live in the power of the resurrection in our daily life? What are the laws that are written on our heart in the New Covenant? They are the laws of faith, hope, and love. 30:6 "The Lord your God will circumcise your hearts and the hearts of your descendants, so that you may love him with all your heart and with all your soul, and live."

The New Commands

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

The resurrection effects us on a daily basis. Jesus said, "Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me..." John 14:21 So what commands are Jesus referring to? We read in Hebrews 7:12, "For when there is a change of the priesthood, there must also be a change of the law." The new commands are these. Believe in Jesus Christ (I John 3:23), Hope in God's promises (1 John 3:1-3), and Love God and people. (John 13:33-34, Romans 5:5)

Eternal Life - Lesson 53

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Jesus Christ defined eternal life this way: "Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent." As we grow in grace we grow in the knowledge of Jesus Christ. John addressed this growth in 1 John. He addresses, children, young men, and fathers. How would a father's knowledge of God differ from that of a child? Think about a long term relationship you've enjoyed. What do you know about that person now that you didn't know when it first started? How has that knowledge strengthened and enriched that relationship? How has that knowledge changed you? (Chapter 15, page 113)

If Then You Have Been Raised With Christ...

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Paul starts Colossians 3 with the declaration: "Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things." This is the invasion of Christ's life into our very hearts and souls. If you've been raised with Christ take off the old and put on the new. Let go of those earthly things and set your minds on things above. Paul points us the practical reality of life in Christ.

Put on the New

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer, Andrew Farley

What is the impact of the resurrection on us? We know that through faith in Jesus Christ we're raised from the dead spiritually just like Jesus was raised from the dead physically. Colossians 3:5-11 "Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. ..."

No Longer Enslaved to Sin

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Today we're continuing our conversation on the resurrection. Just as Christ was raised, the moment we are saved, we pass from death to life. In Romans 6 Paul writes: "For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his. For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin—because anyone who has died has been set free from sin."

  • Could you please explain 1 peter 4:18? If it is hard for the righteous to be saved, what will become of the ungodly and the sinner?
  • I struggle with my witness verbally at work. Even when opportunities come I seem to blow it. I don't say anything when I should. When Jesus said "if you deny me before men, I'll deny you before the father", does that apply to me? How does what Jesus said apply to "grace" in my life as a believer?

Life in the Resurrection

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Yesterday I posted the question, "did you hear a resurrection message today?" Unfortunately the message I heard did not include the resurrection message. It's the most important message there is. The same power that raised Jesus Christ from the dead was imparted to us the moment we believed. The life of Christ is made available through the resurrection.

Death, Burial, and Resurrection

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

The story of Christ is the most important story that has ever been lived out. This story changed the course of human history. This story changed your life when you came to know Him. Jesus had to die in order to be raised again so you and I could have life everlasting. Jesus willingly went the cross to fulfill the Old Covenant, to become the once for all sacrifice for sins. When he exclaimed "It is finished", his work was done. Because of the blood of Jesus, we now have confidence to draw near to God with clean hearts. The death, burial and resurrection of Christ Jesus is the Gospel. Because He lives, we live eternally. May the resurrection be a reality in your life today and every day.
