God Takes Joy in You

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer, Andrew Farley

What does redemption mean to you? Tim writes: "Redemption to me is having Jesus clear for me a debt I could never repay. Giving me a life(eternal) that I could never earn, and putting me in a right standing with God that I could never achieve." and Teresa adds: I can finally rest from all the fear of condemnation."

  • Jay: I understand that it is God's will for all people to be saved but I don't understand why God would allow Satan to roam the world and distract and deceive people from salvation.
  • Terry asks, "If you are not saved by grace, are you saved at all?"
  • Robert asks, "is there any point at which I could lose my salvation?"

The Story of Redemption

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

The Bible is a story of redemption. What does redemption mean to you. Unfortunately many times our understanding is clouded by our attempts to gain, keep, or maintain our redemption. Hebrews 9:12-14 "...[Jesus] entered the Most Holy Place once for all by his own blood, thus obtaining eternal redemption." Jesus entered into Heaven itself. "...How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death,so that we may serve the living God!" We've been set free to serve God in a new way.

Freedom in Christ Alone

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

In a word, what's worth fighting for? Freedom. And we're going to look at freedom this month. Today we're going to look at redemption. In Hebrews 9:11, 12 we read, "...[Christ] did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves; but he entered the Most Holy Place once for all by his own blood, thus obtaining eternal redemption." Jesus wants you to embrace this freedom from the moment you've been set free all throughout eternity.

True Freedom in Christ Alone

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

A special Independence Day broadcast from Basic Gospel. — I love the 4th of July. It's a wonderful experience for us as Americans that enjoy this freedom everyday. But on a much deeper level there are many who are looking for freedom in their souls. In John 8:31, Jesus tells us if we hold to his teachings, we will be his disciples. When we hold to his teachings, we will know the truth, and that truth will set us free. Freedom is what Christ has in mind for each and every one of us. This freedom can only come through Jesus Christ. When we come into this freedom, we shouldn't use it to serve ourselves, but use our freedom to serve one another in love. Are you in bondage to sin? Would you like to be free from that bondage today? Accept Jesus' words as true, know that He is our savior, and you will be set free from the bondage of sin.

Great Expectations - Lesson 14

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Many verses in the Bible make the case for eternal security. The strongest come from the mouth of Jesus. In John 10:28-30 he says, "I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father's hand. I and the Father are one." As hard as Satan tries to seek, kill and destroy, this statement by Christ renders his effort powerless. No one and no thing can ever destroy the assurance of your salvation. It's done! God wants you to know you are saved. It is so important to him that he asked the Spirit to make this truth real in your heart. Your assurance of salvation is on his shoulders and he is up to the task. With Christ living in you, you can walk in assurance. That's good news! (Chapter 5, page 35)

Love Never Fails

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Love never fails. Why do we do what we do? We're simply proclaiming the love of God. We received all the gifts of love and love itself - Jesus Christ. And we want to connect as many people as we can to the love of God. Love is God's "Plan A" and there is no "Plan B".

  • What is your interpretation of 1 John 5:16? Why would it say that God would give him life for those that sin not unto death?
  • Scott asks about John 8:4-11 - the woman caught in adultery.
  • One question someone might ask of Jesus is, "do you know me?"
  • Terry wants to know if Jesus takes away sin, what is the sin that we confess to one another.

Love Rejoices in the Truth

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer, Andrew Farley

Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices in truth. Evil suppresses truth. That's exactly what Satan did in the garden. He deceived Adam and Eve by suppressing the truth. Love does not suppress the truth, it connects us to the truth and joins us to the love of God. The love of God rescues us from sin and points us to the truth in every situation.

God Loves Us Despite Our Failures

Love Keeps No Record of Wrongs

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Love keeps no records of wrongs. This makes no sense to us. It's illogical to us. We keep records for years. But that's just the opposite of love. When you look at the different translations of that phrase you really get the full meaning. When we're wronged we come up with a plan to get even. But God isn't about getting even with us. He's the one being offended all the times, but he's not making plans of revenge. He is love and everything he does is out of his love for us.

Great Expectations - Lesson 13

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Bob begins with a story from his days at University of Georgia. When Herschel Walker joined the team, he single-handedly changed the expectations of the football program. They had great success all because a kid from south Georgia showed up. It's a great analogy of Christianity. When Jesus shows up in our life, everything changes! God's presence in your life changes everything. The God of the universe is living in you. His love, grace, truth and power are now coursing through your spiritual veins. Now all your hopes and expectations for life are pinned to him. Jesus showed up in your life. He is on the scene. As a result, you can live with great expectations. In our own testimonies we look human-side - let's look at it heaven-side. What is God's testimony about us?
