The Power of the Gospel

Richard Peifer, Bob Davis

We read in Colossians 1 one of the most practical applications of the Gospel itself. In verse 9 and 10 we read: "We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way..." and in 13 and 14 "For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins." That's the Power of the Gospel!

  • If the Spirit guides us in all truth and understanding, why does he not lead us from the bondage of legalism?
  • Many Christians believe that with fasting we get closer to God. Do we need to fast in order for the Holy Spirit to move in our lives?

No Better News

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

This Gospel message needs to be proclaimed. It is good news and I've yet to hear any better. As believer we have something good we can share with others. The world is desperate for good news. If you look at the needs of the human heart you will find the answer to every one in Jesus.

  • Since we are forgiven for all of our sins - past, present and future, please explain Matthew 6:14 and 15. "...if you do not forgive others, then your Father will not forgive your transgressions."

You Are a Blessed Person

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Bob and Richard talk about their recent visit to New York with local listeners. It was a thrill to be there.

  • This month we're talking about the Gospel. Galatians 3 takes us back to Abraham and the Abrahamic covenant. Paul asks us to consider Abraham. He believed God and it was credited to him as righteousness. He had no idea of the full extent of God's promise. But he did know that all nations would be blessed through his seed. And those who believe like Abraham are children of Abraham. What is the good news? That through Jesus Christ anyone who comes to Him will be blessed.
  • When we come to Christ by faith and receive the Holy Spirit, does He permanently reside in us because of the change in Covenants?
  • How would you explain in a concise way how a person is saved?

God's Will, Your Benefits - Lesson 4

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Today we take a look at Promises 3 and 4 of the New Covenant. Promise 3 is "they will all know Me" (Hebrews 8:11). The New Covenant opens the way for us to know Him personally and intimately. Jesus defined eternal life in John 17:3 - "Now this is eternal life, that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent." It is so powerful in its simplicity. Eternal life is defined in terms of relationship, not longevity. Promise 4 is "I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more" (Hebrews 8:12). Forgiveness is the foundation stone that holds everything else. In the New Covenant, your sins are totally forgiven - past, present, and future. God chooses to remember them no more. Rather than looking forward to, or begging for, forgiveness, you can rest knowing that Jesus Christ' sacrifice removed your sins as far as the east is from the west. That's some good news!

Set Free and United with God

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

What we see in the book of Hebrews is that the Law was a shadow of the things to come. The reality is Christ Jesus. In Exodus we see God's promise to His people - a land flowing with milk and honey. You and I were under the control of sin and death. But through the resurrection, we've been set free and united with Him so we can walk in the newness of life.

  • How did someone as wise as Solomon end up worshiping idols?
  • Why is there a difference in the creation story between chapter 1 and 2 of Genesis?
  • If God cannot be tempted - James 1:13 - why was Jesus lead into the desert to be tempted and why do we pray that God not lead us into temptation?

It's What We Believe

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

This is the point of life or death... 2 Thessalonians 1:8, 9 "He will punish those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. They will be punished with everlasting destruction and shut out from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his power..." We're either going to believe the Gospel unto salvation or disobey the Gospel unto eternal destruction.

Marked with the Holy Spirit

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

One of the questions we get quite often is whether a believer can get the mark of the beast. Paul writes this in Ephesians 1:11-14 "In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to [God's plan] ... you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God's possession—to the praise of his glory."

A Brand New Heart

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

What is wrong with people? It's the heart. That's what needs to be changed. That's what needs to be cured. We read in Deutoronomy 30:6 "The Lord your God will circumcise your hearts and the hearts of your descendants, so that you may love him with all your heart and with all your soul, and live." This didn't happen in the Old Testament. This was pointing to the New Covenant, ushered in by Jesus. In Colossians 2:11, 12 we read "In him you were also circumcised with a circumcision not performed by human hands. Your whole self ruled by the flesh was put off when you were circumcised by Christ, having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through your faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead."

God's Will, Your Benefits - Lesson 3

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

In this session, we explore the first two promises of God. The first is "I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts." What laws is God referring to? 1 John 3:23 holds the key: "And this is His command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as He commanded us." Promise two is "...I will be their God, and they will be my people." We can be encouraged because we can KNOW that nothing can separate us from the love of God because of this promise. Rest in these amazing promises, and know that you truly are a child of God. Nothing can ever change that status. We belong to Him, because of the work of Jesus Christ. Next week we will look at promises 3 and 4.

Stand Firm in One Spirit

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Jesus Christ is living today. That is our hope for today. It enables us to live this newness of life and face the future. Philippians 1:21, 27 "For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. ... Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Then, whether I come and see you or only hear about you in my absence, I will know that you stand firm in the one Spirit, striving together as one for the faith of the gospel "
