The Goal is Equality

Richard Peifer, Bob Davis

We're in the final week of our conversation on grace and money. This week we're looking at the how, why, and where you give. Today we'll talk about giving with an expectation of equity. 2 Corinthians 8:15 "The goal is equality, as it is written: 'The one who gathered much did not have too much, and the one who gathered little did not have too little.'"

  • Where do we stand in terms of giving with an open heart?
  • Is 1 John 5:7-8 properly translated? "For there are three that testify: the Spirit, the water and the blood; and the three are in agreement."
  • I hear many state that you must give ten percent or you will cursed by God. What do you think of this teaching?
  • How can 1 Corinthians 11:32 "Nevertheless, when we are judged in this way by the Lord, we are being disciplined so that we will not be finally condemned with the world." be correct if there is no condemnation for those in Christ?

Willingness to Give

Richard Peifer, Bob Davis

All month long we've been talking about grace and money. This week we're going to look at five aspects of giving. Today we're going to look at the "willingly" aspect of giving. 2 Corinthians 8 and 9 will be the passages.

  • In what section of the Bible would I find the phrase "anyone who loves this world, does not love me"?
  • What does it mean to be saved? Romans 5:10
  • I've been a worldly person basically all my life. My sister got me to church, but I keep falling away. A very special person came into my life and everything made sense. But now I've lost contact with her. What can I do?

The Desire to Give

Richard Peifer, Bob Davis

We've been talking about money and giving all month. This week we'll be talking about five items on giving. In 2 Corinthians 8:8-9, 12 "I am not commanding you, but I want to test the sincerity of your love by comparing it with the earnestness of others. For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich.... For if the willingness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what one does not have."

  • As a Christian, are we required to go to church? Are we obligated?
  • My question is about fasting. What are the parameters about fasting?
  • 1 Chronicles 29:14 - everything is in God's hands, right?
  • I have a desire to connect to other believers and yet when I do, it seems like its about everything but the Bible. What can I do?
  • Can you explain the last chapter in Malachi concerning "robbing God"?

Giving - A God Given Desire

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

What is a characteristic of love? Giving. From that heart of love God gave. What did He give? His son. John 3:16: "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."

  • Can I denounce my salvation?
  • Our husband and I recently received a large sum of money and wonder what is the best way to use it.
  • It seems like there's quite an industry around the grace of God which is a free gift.

For God So Loved...

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

When we think about the basic Gospel, there's probably one verse that comes to mind more than any other. And that's John 3:16: "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."

  • Can people really see the spirits of the dead?
  • How do you draw somebody out of the Old Covenant mindset when both parties are reading from the same Biblical source and see the same truths?
  • Where did Cain and Able get wives?
  • Why did God kill so many people? Like in the Book of Daniel? How do I reconcile the God of the Old Testament and the God of the New Covenant?

Beyond 'Happiness'

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

There was a song a number of years ago with the line, "don't worry, be happy". It was a catchy tune, but how do we do that?

  • Does the peace that Jesus give us bring us peace when we decide to divorce? How can someone get more faith?
  • Why would God make people with a sinful nature and then tell them to perfect, when they can't be perfect?

Cast Your Cares Upon Jesus

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

I posted an article called "The Cure for Worry!" and I invite you to read that right now. We all worry. That's just who we are. But there are things to combat that worry. First, cast you cares upon Jesus. Second, give thanks. Third, seek the mind of Christ.

  • Hebrews 10:25 tells us not to let up meeting together. How can we relate that to relationships between different denominations?
  • Matthew 20:34 "Jesus had compassion on them and touched their eyes." - I wonder if I wasn't blind if I would have found Jesus.

Safe in Christ

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer, Andrew Farley

One of the things I've noticed about myself is that I can get anxious about money issues. But how do you overcome those feelings of anxiety? Where do you go?

  • What book outlines the requirements for elders and deacons?
  • Can we become possessed? Can people see the spirits of the dead?
  • What if someone turns away from God and says they don't believe anymore?

Be Not Anxious

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer, Andrew Farley

Paul gives us this encouragement "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:6-7
