How do we enter God's rest? It's an important topic to embrace. Everything good and powerful in the Christian life begins from a place of rest. Even creation comes from a place of rest. Adam and Eve were created on the 6th day and on the seventh day entered into rest with God. "For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For whoever lacks these qualities is so nearsighted that he is blind, having forgotten that he was cleansed from his former sins." 1 Peter 1:8-9

Who is Jesus? Paul says that he is the image of the invisible God. By him all things were created. He spoke and the world came to be. He is the one who holds all things together. In a world that seems to be spinning out of control, we can count on the fact that God’s purpose and plan will continue to be fulfilled through Jesus Christ.

One of the claims Jesus made about himself is in John 8:12 - "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life". There are a lot of implications to that statement. Jesus turned the light on for you; you saw your core problem (you were dead in sin), shined the light of forgiveness on you and took your sins away, and his light brought you righteousness. It's a beautiful thing to live in the light. You are no longer in darkness, you are in the light as a child of light.

Jesus underscores who he is in the seven "I am" statements. Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst." John 6:35 He said this just after he fed the 5,000. We have this spiritual hunger inside of us. But it can't be satisfied by worldly things. It can only be satisfied when we receive Jesus Christ by faith.

Happy New Year. I know when the calendar changes from one year to the next there's lots of hope associated with that. Maybe you have some resolutions or thoughts about this new year. Jesus Christ ushered in a New Covenant at the cross. So everything is new. We live in a covenant where God remembers our sins no more. "Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, 'I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.'" ... "Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am." John 8:12, 58

2020 was a very unsettling year. I think we have seen that the world we live in is nothing but shifting sand. The only true foundation is in Jesus Christ. As we start this new year, ask yourself the question that Jesus asked his disciples..."Who do you say that I am?" I know you will answer that Jesus is the Son of the Living God. Let's live that truth out in 2021; and that whatever comes, entrust yourself to Jesus in all things.

In spite of all we've gone through we can still count our blessings in Jesus Christ. Psalm 103 "Bless the Lord O my soul..." We have so much to be thankful for. "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places... [you] were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit..."
