Simple Gospel, Simply Grace - Part 9

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

Abraham is considered the father of faith, for both Jew and Gentile. The essence of what we believe is traced all the way back to him. There's something that we all believe about God and Jesus Christ. When we believe that God has raised Jesus from the dead, it is credited to us as righteousness. We believe that God raised Jesus from the dead. For Abraham to be the father of faith, he had to believe in resurrection. Genesis 22 recounts the story.

Take a Fresh Look at The Cross

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

The grace of God is sufficient to meet every need of the human heart. It's the love of God that brings us assurance to live everyday. John, in his Gospel, only described himself as the one whom Jesus loved. "In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins." 1 John 4:9-10

What Did God Do For You?

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Andrew Farley

There's nothing better to talk about than being loved by God. John described himself as the one whom Jesus loved? How do we get to that point in our own lives? So often we measure God's love for us on what we do for Him instead of what God has done for us. Looking to Jesus is the only way to truly understand God's love for you.

Trail of Assurance

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

The Word in Dallas, TX is featuring Basic Gospel as Ministry of the Month in September. We are grateful for their partnership. We are talking about the love of God. Our resource for the month is The Trail of Assurance, which will make the love of God real in your life. The apostle John always describes himself as "the one whom Jesus loved". We want you to come to that point where you can also say "I am the one who Jesus loves". He will pour that love into your heart and will continue to make that love known to you. It will become your experience in daily life. Understanding this reality will change your life forever.

Grace: Misconception #5

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

A common misconception about the grace of God is that law and grace are equal. People try to balance the grace of God with the law. The law cannot save us - it merely diagnoses our spiritual condition. It points us to Jesus - the giver of life. Galatians 3:19-22 explains it this way: "Why, then, was the law given at all? It was added because of transgressions until the Seed to whom the promise referred had come. The law was given through angels and entrusted to a mediator. A mediator, however, implies more than one party; but God is one. Is the law, therefore, opposed to the promises of God? Absolutely not! For if a law had been given that could impart life, then righteousness would certainly have come by the law. But Scripture has locked up everything under the control of sin, so that what was promised, being given through faith in Jesus Christ, might be given to those who believe."

  • Please help me understand the difference between Christ "helping" me live the Christian life ... and "letting Christ do it all" through me.
  • I would love to hear your thoughts on Hebrews 12:5-11 where it addresses the chastening of the Lord toward his children.
  • How do you know when its time to move on from your current church home and find another?
  • Just wondering if we will literally see God the Father and God the Holy Spirit when we are resurrected and what form will they take?

Simple Gospel, Simply Grace - Part 8

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

What exactly is faith? To find out, we need to look at the life of the one who is considered the Father of Faith — Abraham. In every endeavor of life, there is a person at the beginning stages of it and because of their efforts, we look at them as the father of that endeavor. The book of Genesis chronicles the story of Abraham.

Grace: Misconception #4

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

We've been looking at Today we're going to look at misconception number 4. Grace gives us a license to sin. This had been out there for 2,000 yrs. Paul addresses it in Romans 6. "What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it?" Grace serves as a teachers to teach us to say "no" to ungodliness and to live a righteous life.

  • How do you stop sinning after receiving the grace of God? It seems harder after you come to Christ.
  • How do you to learn to speak in tongues?
  • How can I overcome this addiction of mine?

Grace: Misconception #3

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Andrew Farley

Misconception #3 is, Grace is a thing. But we know that grace is so much more than that. Consider Romans 5:15 "For if many died through one man's trespass, much more have the grace of God and the free gift by the grace of that one man Jesus Christ abounded for many." It's the presence of Christ living in us. He's always there steering us toward upright living.

  • If we are no longer considered sinners after we accept Christ, why do we still continue to sin?
  • My sons have come to me questioning their salvation. How can I answer their doubts?
  • What is the joy of the Lord?
  • I go to a church where I am not learning, and some of the teaching is confusing. Should I leave?

Grace: Misconception #2

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

Grace is the essence of the Christian life from start to finish. Today's misconception about the grace of God: Grace is merely a covering for sins. There's several things wrong about this misconception. First grace is not a covering for sins. Grace takes our sin away. "Look. The lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world." Secondly it limits grace to forgiveness. But our greatest need is life.

  • What is hyper-grace?
  • I'm having a hard time understanding that it's just grace, grace, grace.

Grace: Misconception #1

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

What are the lies or misconceptions people hold in their hearts and minds about the grace of God? Misconception number 1. Grace is necessary only for salvation. That's a misconception. There's nothing bigger or better than the grace of God. It's part of all we do from start to finish.
