The Gospel is of first importance. That is, the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ all in accordance to scripture. The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the substance of our faith. Without it, our faith is future, we are still in our sins, and without hope. We will also receive a resurrected body - one that is imperishable, glorious, raised in power, spiritual, immortal, and in the likeness of Christ's body. At the last trumpet, death will be swallowed up in victory.

What does God think of me? That's the real question. And that's where we need to turn to Christ. In Christ you've received a gift of life and a gift of righteousness. You are in right standing with God. Even more, righteousness has been imparted to you in the person of Jesus Christ. Paul wrote about this in Philippians. "But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. ... the righteousness from God that depends on faith...' Philippians 3:7-11

The essentials in this passage safeguard us against error, lies and deceit from religious and worldly sources. We are warned to beware of anyone who adds to the Gospel. Your flesh doesn't compare to what you have in Jesus Christ. You have gained him and received the gift of righteousness. Christ himself is the goal. Enemies will tray to pull you off the path, so beware. You can identify them because their minds are set on early things. Our citizenship is in heaven, and we eagerly await Jesus.

I've met a lot of people who go into the Word of God and read and later don't know what they've read. That was me. And the reason that's the case is because this is spiritual truths. It's confusing to the natural mind. "... these things God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God. ... no one comprehends the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God." 1 Corinthians 2:10-13
