Power of 8: Law and Grace, part 2

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

Far from being a dull theological tenant, the way of grace is the most exciting way to live. As children of God, we're no longer under the law. We live under the grace of God. No one is righteous under the law. Righteousness is a free gift of the grace of God. How then should we live? Led by the Spirit. The good news is God has sent his Spirit to take up residence in us. The Spirit renews our minds and empowers us to live as children of God. "For through the law I died to the law, so that I might live to God." Galatians 2:19

Jesus Our Savior

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

If this Gospel is going to make sense to us we really need to understand why we need a savior. So many look to Jesus as an example. But we don't need and example - we need a savior. The angels announced his birth, "Today I bring you good news — a savior is born in Bethlehem." Paul gives the most vivid depiction of our condition in Ephesians 2:1 — "And you were dead in the trespasses and sins 2 in which you once walked ...". We "were by nature children of wrath".

  • If Paul holds the key and he wrote the book of Hebrews, then what are the keys that Jesus Christ holds? Are they the same keys?

Empowering Grace

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Andrew Farley

People are so confused about the grace of God. They think that it's simply a covering for sins. But grace is so much more. "But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved..." Ephesians 2:4, 5 By grace I've been made alive. By grace I've been raised up. By grace I'm in Christ.

The Answer is Christ

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

In light of the tragic shootings this past weekend we ask "why is this happening and what can be done to stop it?" There are many reasons being attributed to these actions. But the root cause is evil. The evil desires in the hearts of people that would do harm to others. We pray God's comfort to those who lost loved ones and we resolve to stand firm in proclaiming the only solution to the evil we see in the world. Life is the answer. The life that is only found in Jesus Christ.

Power of 8: Law and Grace, part 1

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

Our new identity in Jesus Christ is so important for us to grasp. We have a post resurrection journey ahead of us fueled by Christ's life. And when we enter into this new life, we are no longer under the law. We've tried to live by rules and regulations, but those only showed us our shortcomings. So how then do we live?

Full of Grace and Truth

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

There's something vitally important about this word "grace". This month we'll look at the reality of grace in our lives. John wrote: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. ... And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth." John 1:1, 2, 14

The Truth Will Set You Free

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Andrew Farley

So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, "If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." Are these just words to you? Have you gone free in Jesus Christ.

Press On Toward the Goal

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

Paul had this wonderful encouragement to all of us in his letter to the Philippians "Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus."

A Living Sacrifice

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

Romans 12:1 is the passage that helps us understand this freedom on a day-to-day basis. "I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship." When you came to life in Christ you believed in heart that Jesus Christ is Lord and you were set free from the law of sin and death and now you are free.

Power of 8: Identity, part 2

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

Our identity in Christ answers the question of "Who?" We were once sinners, apart from Christ. But when we come to Christ, our identity changed. We were sinners, we were washed by the blood of Jesus, we were sanctified, and we were given a new identity - child of the Living God. Who we are in Christ is so important to understand. It is the key to living a life of assurance and power.
