Desires of the Spirit

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

Paul wrote this in his letter to the Galatians 5:13 "For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another." What happens when we try to clean up the flesh? We try to do it by human effort, but Paul reminds us to "walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh".

  • Are we supposed to feel the Holy Spirit within us?
  • Was David saying that the angel's food is meat? Or is he talking about manna and corn, as in Psalm 78:24?
  • What does a wife do if her born again husband is uncomfortable leading spiritually?
  • Will two Christians - one living piously and the other lazily - have the exact same reward in heaven ... or the same degree of Paradise?

Saying "No" to Sin

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

Often we get discontent and unsatisfied with life. And the things of the world look good to us at the point of self-pity. Sin deceives us. We see that in the beginning — in the Garden. We read this in Genesis when Even is tempted by the serpent. Adam and Eve chose independence from God by partaking of the fruit of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. The things of this world are death. The things of God are life.

Power of 8: Identity

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

Today we look at the "who" - who you were before coming to Christ and who you became when you came to Christ. Once you come to Christ, you receive a new identity. You become a child of God. We were sinners, dead in our sins. We had unbelieving hearts. Now, we are children of God, made righteous, completely forgiven in Jesus Christ. With this new identity, you find peace and purpose in life.

Released from the Law

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

"Or do you not know, brothers—for I am speaking to those who know the law—that the law is binding on a person only as long as he lives? ... if her husband dies, she is free from that law... Likewise, my brothers, you also have died to the law through the body of Christ, so that you may belong to another, to him who has been raised from the dead, in order that we may bear fruit for God." Romans 7:1-6

Slaves to Righteousness

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Andrew Farley

"Do you not know that if you present yourselves to anyone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness? But thanks be to God, that you who were once slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were committed, and, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness." Romans 6:16

You Are Free

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

You are free — free to express your life through Christ. "So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus. Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to make you obey its passions. Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness. For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace." Romans 6:11-14

Power of 8: The Reality of the Resurrection, Part 2

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

The resurrection impacts our daily lives. The first impact is that the resurrection means we have eternal life. The resurrection is God's pronouncement that Jesus is the Son of God. Because of this, we can be assured that He has power over death and that he can raise us to new life... eternal life. Once we have eternal life, then we will begin to experience freedom and change in our daily life. The next impact is assurance. Life is in Jesus Christ. If you have Jesus, you have eternal life. That is assurance. It's not just a hope, but a steadfast assurance.
