Paul writes to Timothy about people spreading false doctrines. And he tells him: "The goal of this command is love, which comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith." 1 Timothy 1:5 First and foremost it gives us a pure heart. Our old heart has been cut away and we've been given a new heart. We also have a good conscience so that we can serve the living God and a sincere faith.

God made us holy. He forgave us our sins. He made us righteous. He did this so that he could abide in us and share with us his divine nature. But we can't do that through the law. To share in Christ's life we live by faith. One of those aspects is in Galatians 5:6 "For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love."

The cross is the central symbol of the Christian faith. What did Jesus do for us on the cross? What is the importance of the cross? Paul calls the gospel "of first importance". (1 Corinthians 15:2) He is passing this information on to you and me. There is no salvation, life, or hope available to us without the cross. And this good news story actually starts with death - the death of Jesus Christ. There is no forgiveness without the cross of Christ. Through the forgiveness he provided at the cross, we are released from sin and death and are reconciled to God.

How did the resurrection open the door to be made alive to Christ? Let's open the Scriptures and allow the Spirit of God to make this new life we have real to us. In Romans 6 Paul writes: "For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his. ... For one who has died has been set free from sin." Romans 6:5-7

So many people when they hear this message of grace ask the question, "are you saying we can just go out and sin?". Often that's because they believe salvation is limited to forgiveness. But the reality is we are given a new life - Christ's life - that is lived out by the Holy Spirit within us. We have an eagerness to do good works. We're saved by grace through faith in Jesus. There's no other way than through Jesus. Titus 2:11-14

Under the Old Covenant, everything was a constant reminder of sin. In this New Covenant, God makes four promises. Those promises are "I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts, I will be their God and they will be my people, they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more (Hebrews 8:10-12). God, in his glory and grace, guaranteed these four promises by the finished work of Christ and delivered them to you by His resurrected life.
