Everyone would like a lifetime, rock-solid guarantee for things is this life. Unfortunately that doesn't exists for things in this world. However, in Jesus Christ we do have such a guarantee. Romans 8:28, 29 "And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers."

Communication in marriage is a big subject. It's not only the words we say, it's also the tone of those words. James 1:19 exhorts us to be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger. Spoken words are important in our relationship. Each partner should become aware of how the words we speak, lift up or tear down the other. You not only are husband and wife but you are brother and sister in Christ. Understanding that eternal relationship will temper and soften the words you speak to one another. Colossians 4:6 says "Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone." Apply this verse to your marriage relationship and see your marriage strengthen.

Identity in Christ is such a vitally important subject. Who we are is one of the most important questions there are. You may find your identity in what you do. But that's temporary. You may base it on other's opinions. But those change. For an eternal identity you have to look to Jesus Christ and what he says about you. He's declared you to be a child of God.

We're all given a brand new heart. Deuteronomy 30:6 "And the Lord your God will circumcise your heart and the heart of your offspring, so that you will love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, that you may live." Only those who've been born again of the Spirit of God can worship God in Spirit and truth through the power of the Holy Spirit.

For we are the real circumcision, who worship by the Spirit of God and glory in Christ Jesus and put no confidence in the flesh - Philippians 3:3 When we come to Christ we realize that he is everything. Everything I've looked for and everything I've desired is found in Jesus Christ. This is our new life as children of God.

How do we overcome selfishness in our marriage and learn how to serve our mate in love? We have to recognize that first and foremost we are believers in Christ and we live in dependence on Him. As His attitudes soak in, then we can begin to show them to others. Jesus turns greatness upside down. Greatness doesn't mean lording it over people and thinking more of ourselves than we should. When it comes to the things of God, we see that greatness is completely different. It is about serving people. To overcome our selfishness, we have to come to terms with what greatness really means. Jesus demonstrated that to us. He humbled himself, he sacrificed all on our behalf. As we walk in dependence on Him, this attitude of service will begin to flow from us into our marriage. Serving each other in love will revolutionize your marriage.

Romans 12:3-5 is a vitally important passage. But it doesn't just stop there. Paul goes on to write about being completely dependent upon Jesus Christ and the importance of the different gifts we all have to serve the body of Christ.

Romans 12:3 "For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you." Every person in the body of Christ has significance. We are all members of one body and we need all of the gifts given to the members to be active in the body of Christ.
